The hardest team to figure out in the Big 12 during the 2007-08 season was Texas Tech.

The puzzling nature of this program surfaced in early February when Bob Knight resigned as coach after padding his record win total to 902.

As had been spelled out in a succession plan ironed out a few years ago, Knight's son, Pat, took over and went 4-7 as the Red Raiders finished 16-15 overall and 7-9 in the Big 12.

Two of the defeats Tech suffered following the change in head coaches included a 44-point drubbing at Texas A&M and a 58-point pasting at Kansas, the most lopsided outcome ever in Big 12 play.

The reason for such letdowns is readily apparent. Tech does not possess as much talent as many teams in the league. It succeeds by running crisp offense and also getting after it defensively. When the offense falters, so too does the tenacity of the Red Raiders' defense.

When asked about the season's ups and downs, Knight attributed the inconsistency to "just a lot of mental mistakes that don't come from what the other team does. It just comes from us. I think it is just a mental approach that's not very good, and it is something we've got to really work on."

That could be true, but Knight must also work on attracting better players. Many top-flight recruits never considered playing for Bob Knight because of his temperament. Although he is stern and not afraid to instill discipline, Pat Knight is better suited to communicate with players and could eventually land better prospects, though Texas Tech is not an easy place to recruit.

Hey guys, I'm trying to set up a sim league starting next season, where a simulator plays out the game and gives you realistic scores and stuff, and your Red Raiders are still available! If you are interested or have any questions feel free to e-mail m ...(more)

What can we expect different with the next recruiting class now that Knight Younger is at the helm?  Is Tech's recruiting focus the same, and will Knight Elder's absence help or hurt - in your opinion?  Or will Elder still be involved.  Not living in Lubbock anymore so I'm a bit out of the loop.

I just set up a new college baseball forum a couple of days ago and I'm trying to get the word spread out. Should be fun once the season gets going.

Alright guys, with a win against the Shorthorns, one over the Saggies, plus wins over Gonzaga and Kansas State, not to mention a 1-point loss against Stanford, the Texas Tech resume is starting to look pretty good.  Any chances at a tournament bid?  Your thoughts please.

My feeling is that if we win out (over Kansas tonight and Baylor saturday) plus get at least 2 w

Why couldnt you have dont that to atm? All kidding aside. You guys played a great game. It was close there in the closing seconds. Looked like Texas might come back and tie you or beat you. But it was not to be. You had fewer turnovers, better shooting percentage and you made some very important free throws. Kudos. Good luck on the rest of the season.

So what do y'all think about Pat Knight taking over?

I don't think Bobby did him any favors by leaving him mid-season, but we'll see what happens soon enough.  So far we're 0-2 under Pat, but I think we would have lost in Waco no matter who our coach was.  Pat also was in control during the Centenary debacle, but you can't really hold that against hi ...(more)

I'm glad you guys won. Big win. Pat Knight's first win. You showed up K-State. Yes! Good luck in the future and I hope you keep winning.  You stopped Beasley and Walker. Big win Tech.
