THE GOOD NEWS
Texas Tech made the coaching changeover during the middle of the Big 12 schedule, allowing Pat Knight to succeed his father, Bob, in some part to allow the transition to take place with games left to play. It was a good move to allow Pat Knight some first-hand experience as a head coach. The problem for him is the talent level at Tech is thin, though two freshmen, G John Roberson and F Mike Singletary, emerged as potential standouts.

THE BAD NEWS
Usually when the Red Raiders hit the road, they had difficulty coping with an opposing crowd and blocking out distractions. A 58-point defeat they suffered late in the season at Kansas was the most lopsided loss ever in a Big 12 game. It clearly pointed out the disparity between Tech and the elite teams in the conference. It's up to Pat Knight to explore new recruiting avenues and perhaps build key relationships with AAU coaches.

KEY RETURNEES
The Big 12's deadliest shooter when left open along the perimeter was G Alan Voskuil, who connected on almost half the 3-pointers (62-for-126) he attempted. The junior returns and will again team in the backcourt with G John Roberson, a freshman Tech trusted to run the point. F Mike Singletary is the top returnee up front, though Knight hopes to add muscle and depth with three big men he recruited.

ROSTER REPORT

--After going scoreless against Baylor in the final regular-season game, G Alan Voskuil led Texas Tech with 19 points in its first-round loss to Oklahoma State in the Big 12 Tournament. Voskuil made 5 of 8 3-point attempts.

--After scoring 51 points in the last three regular-season games, G John Roberson was limited to two points by Oklahoma State. He went 1-for-6.

--Although F Mike Singletary lost his starting spot late in the season, the freshman still played extended minutes, including 35 against Oklahoma State. He scored 14 points in that game on 6-for-8 shooting, part of a 30-point output by the Tech reserves.
