So what if I like to argue?

I joined this "community" in November of 2006 to argue about where the Bills should be in the power rankings. I was right about my complaints too, as the Bills won few games in a row after that and finished the with a 7-9 record. Since than I have been in numerous arguments on this site, and I'm pretty sure I ended up being right in most cases (2006 BCS Title game comes to mind when I was wrong, dead wrong).

People say I shouldn't critize my favourite teams because that's not being a true fan...that's a load of BS. I want my teams to succeed so badly that I'll do nearly anything to see them win championships. If any member of the organization (player, coach, GM, owner, etc) is doing something that I feel hurts the team's chances of success, I will let whomever is willing to listen me know about it. That does not make me a fairweather fan, that makes me the best kind of fan there is, the fan that cares about the state of the franchise. I refuse to always be optimistic, I will always be realistic. If it's realistic that the team has a shot at something special, I will be optimistic. If not, then I will argue that changes need to happen.

I do not like players that are not on my favourite team, end of story. I may respect certain players (Kevin Garnett for example) but I do not like him and I do not wish him success if he is playing for any team but the Raptors. The only POSSIBLE exception to that is if a player went to my favourite NCAA school, Ohio State.

On the same topic, I do not like any team not listed in my favourite teams above (with the exception of teams in leagues that are not given an option here at CBS, such as Toronto FC). I may respect some teams (San Antonio Spurs for example) but I do not wish them success at all.

Do not tell me that I should become a lawyer, because I do not care for that profession. Just because I like to argue doesn't mean I'd be a good lawyer.

On that final note, if you disagree with me than you are wrong.

So what if I like to argue?

I completely agree with you about criticizing your team. To me, if I see something wrong with my team, I'm gonna say it. If it makes people mad, then oh well. Nothing is worse than a homer who sees nothing wrong with his team. For example, right now the now the Ohio State basketball team is playing terrible, yet there are still fans out there that think they will win out and make the tournament, and then be a dangerous team in March. It's possible, but not with how they're playing now.

I also agree, for the most part, about not liking players on other teams. I agree that I will continue to root for previous Buckeyes, unless they are now playing for my most hated teams. But also, for people like me who grew up in small towns and now have professional athletes from our home area, I will root for those players from my town. I hate the Los Angeles Dodgers, but I root for Chad Billingsley because me and him went to the same school.

The only thing I disagree with is the thing about other teams. I generally have a favorite team in each league of a particular sport(example, Tigers in the AL and Reds in the NL). It just keeps me more interested in the sport for a longer period of time. I can AL games and see how the teams that will play the Tigers are playing, and I can watch NL games and see how teams playing the Reds are playing. Now if the two teams played, whether in interleague or in the World Series, I hope the Tigers sweep them.

Great blog, and I think the biggest problem around here is that people simply don't respect other's opinions. You don't have to think the other person is right, and you should always think you are right. But the homers and the idiots who have nothing better to do than to troll on other teams boards need to stop. We need more members like you who are passionate about their teams and will continue to argue their opinions by using facts.

I will respectfully disagree with you about the favourite teams. That's just my opinion, but you explained yourself nicely so I do understand where you're coming from, same with the Chad Billingsly thing. I just hate it when people tell my I'm not a true fan for critizing my favourite team, then I get in huge arguments with them about not only my "fanhood" but why I'm "stupid". Sorry, but if the team is going nowhere and I'm pissed, how does that make me stupid? I'm too tired to rant now, but I know you understand where I'm coming from.

I agree 100 % with you about being critical of your team.  If they make a stupid move and everyone knows it, you shouldn't rationalize it until it becomes a good move. Some people will look for any bright spot no matter how horrible the signing, trade, draft, etc. If nobody is critical then why would a team bother to turn around and take a new approach. If everything they do is percieved by the fan base as a good move then that means the tickets are still being sold and the $$$ is still coming in. If fans are restless and attendance and stuff ( merchandising, whatever) goes down then heads are gonna roll, new management, new players, new coaches, maybe all three. Now that doesnt mean sure fire success but if your team is lousy then change couldnt make it any worse. Theres only one way to go when your at the bottom and thats up. The only point I have to say I disagree ( well I guess I dont disagree, if thats how you say you feel, thats how it is, I suppose I have a different take is all) is when you said about not wishing other teams or players to have success unless they are on your team. Its a pretty safe bet that you're Canadian. As a Canadian I enjoy when all the Canadian teams are doing well, not just my Flames.  I think it'd be great if all 6 could get into the playoffs some year. ( I dunno if thats even possible with the 6 teams in 2 divisions. I guess so, you dont have to win your division as long as the pts. are there) I dont know how old you are but I'm a Jays fan but I remember when the Expos had some good young teams and I wanted them to do well. And what about local boys? I assume your from the G.T.A. or at least someplace in Ontario. You must have some guys from your hometown or close to it in the NHL. I always rooted for felow Nova Scotians in the league ( not alot of us but Crosby and Al McInnis come to mind right away ) and thats not even anyone from my town its my province, but we have alot less people just fewer players with NHL skill per person than you folks. Anyway thats all, go Jays, Bills, and Flames. I gotta get to my fantasy draft.

So what if I like to argue?

Well I'm from Mississauga (about 30 minutes west of Toronto) and the only NHL player I know of that is from here is Stevie Y. However I'm not really that much of a hockey fan so maybe there are more that I'm not aware of. Plus me not being a huge hockey fan is probably a reason why I don't really care about the other Canadian teams. I know last year I was rooting for Ottawa to lose in the finals, since I am a Leafs fan by default, growing up in the GTA.

Honestly when I wrote this I was upset, so maybe I went too far. All I do is root for my teams to win, and if they are eliminated I could care less about who wins, as long as it's not one of hated rivals. Also, the only jersey's I own are those of my favourite teams, and if the player who I have is no longer with the team, I don't wear that jersey.

Also, I am 19 but my dad and I would go to Montreal a lot for interleague when the Jays played, so I guess I'm kinda upset there's no other destination close to Toronto where we can see them play road games. They only play in Detroit once a year and for some odd reason it's usually during the week or in April when I'm writing exams. I am going to Pittsburgh this year though which should be nice, although I don't think the Jays have ever played there before. Other than that there's nothing else practical, so I wouldn't mind seeing Montreal getting another team (although that won't happen).
