About Sometimes the geeks have their day
Dad worked for a national bank in BC so every 4 years we seemed to pack up and move to a different city. So the beginning of my grade 9 year my older brother and I found ourselves in a new school knowing only each other. In this particular school they had an early morning phys ed class mostly for the football team so they could get a longer practice after school. The other part of the class was made up of well lets just say brains not physical ability was more their forte. So me and my bro signed up to get out of school earlier and 7 am on a crisp and cool September morning dressed shorts and tees we all gathered on the football team to await the teacher. As it turns out he was also the football coach so you guessed it football was on the menu today and everyday it turns out till snow. As the coach started dividing the class his players to one side the aforementioned binary crew to the other the kid next to me says happens every year football team against us and we get killed. Now as noone knows either me or my brother we get put with the calculus guys. Now A quick word about my brother when he was 12 he played in a soccer league with 14 year olds and was their leading goal scorer, he never played a sport that he didnt earn a trophy of some sort or as far as I can recall he never played on a losing team. In short he was a natural athelete my self any ability I had was due to the fact that he got better by practicing and I was his well practice dummy. But I did develop some skill sets but I was a very thin kid I looked totaly ripped next to a stick insect and I had some shifty moves and speed (I wasnt scared out there but I passed alot of people who were) comes to mind. Back to geeks vs jocks so of course its tackle (what coach wouldnt feed his defense some raw meat) the lead geek asks me and bro if we could catch a football probably bro replies so here we are waiting to recieve the kick off from the most of starting 11 senior football team. Boom kick sails to bro he catches it to say the geeks blocked would be like saying a car can stop a speeding train anyways a quick move to the inside sheds the first 2 tacklers a sudden stop head fake then like he was shot out of a cannon bro takes to the outside and guns it to mid field (at this time the geeks were stunned and just stopped and watched) bro shifts into his Gayle Sayers mode jukes and jives the following 50 yards for a TD untouched. Well the cheering and smiles on the geeks was a sight to behold for some it was the first touchdown in two years. As the game went on I picked of 2 passes and scored once my brother accounted for 3 more scores and the geeks had beaten the mostly senior starting eleven football team for the first time anybody could recall and you have never seen a group of athletically challenged young males so vividly elated its like they had won the provincial science fair It just goes to show that on any given ....
