Mike Richards demands and gets a trade to the Penguins or if in 12 years his contract expires and he signs with the pens?
after 12 yrs, you can have him then!!
that signing/extension still makes 0 sense to me. he's not crosby, staal, malkin, nash, kane or any other sniper in the league or upcoming in the league. he is a work horse who gives 110% every night. not sure why the Flyers had to spend over 12 yrs on him though!
rj umberger - traded to nashville -- from the final 4 to the basement, thanks philly !

Heard on NHL Live today that the Flyers signed Mr. Jeff Carter to a 3 year $15 million contract.
Good news and like many of us assumed, it would be a $5 million per year deal. I like the fact that its only 3 years, because while I have full faith in Carter to just get better, the Flyers aren't locked in with him for too long in case he does suddenly lose his game or get hit with injuries. And I'm sure when he proves he wasn't just a guy who had 1 good year, the Flyers will keep him for the long run.
So what do you guys think the Flyers do with Carter? Keep him as a 3rd line center, or move him up with Richards, put him on the wing and create an extremely dangerous 2nd line?
If Umberger had to go, I like that the Flyers chose to send him to the Blue Jackets. He's still close to where he grew up, he gets to be coached by Ken Hitchcock, who coached him for a bit while in Philly and he is out West now, so we don't have to see him have a 9 goal playoff series against us. He wasn't always scoring and at times did go through slumps, but you could tell the guy played with heart all the time. Hopefully we see him back in a Flyers uniform one day. Congrats Columbus.
And that contest I mentioned wouldn't start until the week before the season starts. I'll remind you all when it gets close to then.

Fly,
The Carter deal actually isn't done yet, but apparently it will be by the time the Flyers leave Ottawa. I think he stays as the third line center, which will make the Flyers right there with the Pens in terms of depth at center.
As for Umberger, while I didn't exactly want to see him go, he was the guy I would have moved. I really didn't like him prior to this season, but every problem I had with him from seasons past was solved by him this offseason. He really proved me wrong and I'm glad he did. I'm glad he's going to play in Columbus because, like you said, its still close to home. Also, Hitchcock has said that he likes coaching Umberger, so that should be good for both of them. Columbus is going to be a solid team in the next season or two.

RJ's goal production just got sliced in half!!! He doesn't get to play against the Pens 8 times a season anymore. Haha
I think the Flyers made the right choice in keeping Carter over RJ, but $5M/season ... man, these kids are getting paid a lot these days. Of course, as a Pens fan, I already know this all too well.
