I'm from Chicago and I live in Charlotte now. I think that this city is not really a real sports town at all. Chicago had one of the greatest sport teams dismantled and the United Center stayed packed. People would go to the games just for fun knowing the Bulls were going to lose. They get drunk have a few laughs and go out on the town. The Cubs haven't won nothing in a century but Addison/Clark is like an amusement park they do the same think. And the Bears... Da Bears pump you up to let you down EVERY YEAR and they get the most support. Why? We appreciate being represented and Charlotte just seems like everyone thinks like you owe them somthing. Support your sport teams PLEASE Its a cool thing to do

I've been in Charlotte for 25 years now. One of the only few here that was actually born and raised in Charlotte. I've seen it all. In order to get the fans to come and keep coming, you have to win. Even though the Panthers went to the Super Bowl and have been to 3 NFC championship games, people still leave the stadium once we start losing. It's that simple! The Hornets were a new thing when they first came. Everyone went because we didn't have nothing else. It made us feel like a big city. I still cheer for the Hornets till this day. Shinn left the city, the Hornets never left my heart. I went to every home game here. I've even been to some home games in New Orleans. Not to mention this is College Basketball county!!! Big difference between the NBA. Plus, it doesn't help that a lot of the Bobcats, staff and players, went to UNC. Me being a Duke fan, I can't come to terms with cheering for an UNC alumni team. I'm so glad we have Larry Brown, maybe we will look outside of UNC. Heard DeMarcus Nelson is working out with the Bobcats next week! I also hate the fact that there will not be another ACC tournament here until we get a new arena, due to the fact we have a tiny arena. I really enjoy going to the ACC tournament and the NCAA tournament games, sucks for me now. Then, onto the name of the Bobcats. How "Bob" Johnson related is that? The Hornets were named after Charlotte being named the Hornets Nest. That easy. I understand we don't have any Panthers local in Charlotte, but since it is a NC and SC team, what could we have named them? I do understand the point though. The New Orleans Saints have sucked for more seasons than the New York Knicks and they still manage to sell out games, even before Reggie Bush. I will say this, I am at the Panthers game until the clock strikes 0:00. That's how a real fan supports his team. Win or Lose! The Patriots proved you can't win them all.

There is nothing to support. Michael Jordan and Bobcat Johnson are part-time owners. The team is composed of way too many young players. The uniforms are ugly.

Sure the original Hornets were garbage, but they were the originals and we quickly added terrific players. NBA is about stars, it's not a team game, unless of course you have a team full of stars. They messed up by not taking any of the more popular unprotected players in the expansion draft.

Charlotte Hornets' fans became accustomed to NBA stars like Zo, LJ, Glen Rice, Eddie Jones, Mashburn, Baron Davis. Gerald Wallace is a great player but when you do great things on terrible teams, it's not going to be as recognized. I support the Bobcats but I do not like how this team has been built.

Also, this team has had way too many injuries and the broadcasting issues hurt the teams appeal to basketball fans outside of Charlotte.

Can someone tell me why the Bobcats passed up on JJ Redick ?  Because the only thing I can come up with is that MJ was a tarheel and he wont have a Duke player on his team. I think Redick could have done great things for the Bobcats, What do you guys think ?

Charlotte is relatively new to the sports scene.  A lot of people have talked about Chicago and New York as real sport cities, but those cities have had teams for a century.  People have a heritage going back to their great grandparents of pulling for their favorite team.  We still have to develop that here.

The people who have grown up in NC in the past naturally became fans of the teams that won, since they didn't have a home team.  Now that we have our own teams, we expect them to win in order for us to be fans.  Time and a new generation of fans growing up with their team will fix that.

I say give it a little time.

Didn't read all the posts...but all one has to do to answer the question is to look at this year's draft.

Why would fans support a team that evidently doesn't know what it is doing.

Yeah, the draft was awful. They traded up to get an anorexic French guy. Is he supposed to be the next Boris Diaw?

We trade up because we need immediate help and then we draft a guy who won't be able to play in the NBA due to a lack of physicality and muscle for at least a couple of years.
