You can't buy gas and then complain about the prices because you voluntarily purchased it. If you didn't like the price you wouldn't buy it.
Recess, I'm all for the free market and I don't blame the oil companies as much as I blame OPEC and our incompetent government, but I think you are overboard with your view on oil.
Oil is not a luxury. In our country it is a necessity. By your logic if the price of food went to high we couldn't complain about it because we voluntarily purchase it. And if we didn't like the price we should just not eat.
It's the same with oil. Simple supply and demand doesn't work when demand stays the same regardless of supply. People have to have gas. Yes people can do things to use less gas, but not by a huge ammount. I only drive to and from school in my car except on the weekends. I spend nearly 20 dollars a day on gas. I have too. If gas goes up to 5 dollars a gallon I will still have to drive to school even though I don't like the price. So what exactly are my choices? Don't go to school, bike 60 miles each day, move.
These aren't very practical solutions. I'm not big on complaining about gas prices anway. I think we had it very cheap for very long. I just wish the price would have gone up slower so there was more time to adjust. However just saying we should use less gas and that we voluntarily purchase it is way to limited a view.
