It is rumored that Ty Law could well be released by the Chiefs in the near future, given the state of the Patriots defensive backfield do you want him back for next season?
Explain your reasons

Personally I would welcome him back. Sure he is not what he once was as a player but he is still prenty decent, knows the system and I think the fans would thrilled to see him back. I have forgiven the "feed the family" comment!

Ty Law was once my favorite player on the Patriots, and for that reason alone I'd want him to come back. However, I don't think he really adds anything to the team... I suppose he would be an upgrade over Randall Gay, so if the options were he or Gay starting across from Ellis Hobbs, I'd take Law.

With age becoming a factor on this Patriots squad I don't think we should take him back. He will go to the highest bidder no sentiment with Ty.

Assuming we get Ty Law for what an average nickel corner is worth I think it would be a huge signing. The Patriots have been missing that wile veteran in the corner depth chart. He fills a need for a season which allows us to go linebacker in the 2008 draft. As far as bidding goes, I think there will be some demand for him if he is still as good as I think he is. I'd offer him a one year 1 million dollar deal with another 2 million in incentives. Sound fair?

Eugene Wilson, Randall Gay, and Asante Samuel's contracts are up. I think you should sign Ty Law put him at FS put Brandon Merriweather at nickle. Trade that 7th pick for a later choice and that teams 1st next year draft a CB like Domonique Rogers-Cromartie. 2nd round draft a LB. You have 2 3rd rounders so you could draft another LB and the best player there. If you did do that what would you do with James Sanders ?

Ty= done. It's a long story but the main place I post at is a Chiefs fan forum and they can't wait to get rid of him. They all wanted him bigtime when he went to the Jets, they got him last year and now they hate him lol. And they play a cover 2 which should be easier on the CBs. I guess he falls down/ gets burned a lot too.
No thanks.
I don't think we need Zach either, but that's another thread. We need youth /speed on defense, especially for pass defense. I don't think they need a lot though. The d-line is all set and if Colvin doesn't get cut, Vrabel, Colvin, and Thomas are all pretty good LBs, but we don't have that stud MLB. Bruschi and Seau were better [as was the defense] early in the year when they subbed for each other. Once Colvin went down they were often both on the field, and, imo, the D wasn't quite as good. I don't see Zach helping much but obviously the Pats know what they are doing. Zach would most likely be taking Seau or Bruschi's spot so hopefully he is still at least as good as those guys. Either way I'd like to see the Pats draft a stud LB. I think we have 3 very good ones but could use more youth and depth. Then if Samuel leaves, and with Wilson and Gay being FAs, and Rodney getting up there.... We need some DBs! With the offense being pretty much set the Pats should be able to focus on defense in the draft. I don't think they need much though, unless Samuel leaves. There are quite a few very good CBs in this draft though and if Samuel's price is to steep I don't mind seeing him go. I don't see him being worth more than 7-8 mil so if he leaves for more than that, so be it. I don't think he's worth 10 mil, though he could still improve.
I can't wait for the draft! [ I hope we get to keep the rest of our picks!]

I'd love to see him back! (along with Willie M.) He is a great player, and even though he has aged a little, still plays well (better than a lot of the backs) and he has experience. Are we going to get him back? Probably not.

My gut feeling is that we have every chance of getting him back. He and Bill are back on decent speaking terms he has made his big pay days he knows he will not get a mega deal anymore with any team and what better for him to come back to the team where he made his name.
Plus, one more pick makes him the Patriots alltime interception leader alone...watch this space I think its going to happen!

With Asante Samuel, Randall Gay, and Eugene Wilson all potentially leaving, I think the Patriots at least need to entertain the idea of bringing Ty Law back (if the Chiefs cut him). Law's best days are obviously behind him, but CB is the hardest position in the game to learn, so I'd rather plug him into the secondary than a high draft pick anyday.
My gut feeling is that Law will still just go to the highest bidder, but if he were willing to take a deal similar to Rodney Harrison, I'd love to have him back. Sure, I'd love to have Samuel back too, but I don't think that's going to happen, and I also think Eugene Wilson will get a better offer from another team. As for Randall Gay, I think he's improved steadily and knows the system, and will probably be available for a reasonable cap number... I just don't want to see it get to the point where we're signing guys like Hank Poteat off the street again.

I haven't seen much of Ty, the last few years. He had a lot of interceptions in 2005, but picks are overrated.
Just like Zach Thomas -- I'd be happy to see him in camp, as long as he's not paid much and not projected to start.
(On a hilarious note not worthy of a thread -- Rick Bucher just reported that the Knicks have interest in Vince Carter. Maybe they can package David Lee and all their youngsters with expiring contracts. HA!)

If they could get him for short money it's worth it. His skills are declining yes but he fits in the pats def system well and wouldn't be asked to cover other teams no 1 receivers man to man down field. Law is as good as there is for a corner against the run and also excels at bump and can cover anyone for about 15 yards in press coverage anything more than 15 yards you better have a safety over the top.
But as a replacement for samuel if that's what they choose to do that would be a mistake. If they don't sign samuel and release colvin and not replace them with a high draft pick or a proven free agent the d is going to be in trouble next year remember 2005? below average secondary + weak pass rush = divisonal playoff exit

To me taking Ty Law back would depend a lot on what happens w/Samuel. Granted Law would definently help but his age puts a damper on his skill when the Pats have Ellis Hobbs and Brandon Meriweather, who can play corner.

Law was always one of my favorite Patriots, but age is more of a factor for Corners then LB's | |
