Cole Hamels showing his true greedy colors !

An article in the philly papers had a article about Cole Hamels being furious over his current contract and money situation. he told gm pat gillick the Phillies would be "very sorry" for going down this road of not paying players etc and going to arbitration(howard). hamels makes $400,000 this yr. he is up for arbitration in 09 or 10.  he is not starving and his always hurt. he will get his money.

what's with these guys ? greed greed greed.

HOCKEY-I agree with you to a point. for him to threaten gillick like that makes me want to trade him right now! he has no right to threaten gillick like that. it's a business and he should know that !

Pretty stupid on the Phillies part.

All Hamels wanted was a couple hundred thousand more. That would have made him happy. The Phillies were really shortsighted here.

Disturbing is Hamels promise to "remember this"..."low bow".

It would have been much better for the owner to cough up the extra $350,000. Instead they now have a pitcher who feels slighted.

I understand the Phillies can't give in to every player that whines, but a guy like Hamels is a commodity. He already is a good pitcher and very soon could be one of the best. The guy was the top pitcher on a division winning team. the top pitcher by far despite missing time with injuries.

This is very poor, bad, bad decision by the Phillies.

Adam Eaton = $7,200,000      & nbsp;      10-10   6.29

Cole Hamels =  $500,000      & nbsp;       15-5       3.39

Sounds about right? Um Yeah...thats some management strategy. This is almost inexplicable, and something the I am sure burns Cole's ass.

They're making plenty of money with the new park filled just about every night.

Why go down this road with Hamels? Would it have really killed their bottom line to throw him an extra $100K or $200K? That's chump change by today's standards and would've gone a long way toward keeping the kid happy until he gets to arbitration and free agency after that.

According to 610's Howard Eskin, the Phils made him an offer that would've paid him more than the $500K he's getting for this season. But, instead of giving him what they had offered, as did the Brewers with Prince Fielder, they gave him less.
