I want to know who you are the best and worst sports broadcasters Can be from any sport. Local or national.
At the local level the Redsox broadcasters Jerry Remy and Don Orsillo do a great job. They talk to the situations really well. They understand whats going on at the moment. They explain to listeners what they think should happen situationally. They work well together and play off each other.
At the national level there are some that I like. In Football I like the CBS crew with Phil Simms and Jim Nantz. I am not a fan of Joe Buck or Chris Berman. In fact most of the ESPN crew for any sport is not that good. There are so many others...
I don't know much about NBA or local broadcasters in your area. Who is best announcer from past? Who do you like or dislike from any sport? Who are the most biased? Who are the funniest? Who should just, well, find a new career?
Please share your thoughts.

Talking about all sports......I actually really like the MNF crew of Tirico/Kornheiser/Jaworski....They gel pretty well.......
The Yankee tandem of Sterling/Waldman is amongst the worst...And I hate Chris Collinsworth, so whoever and whenever he is broadcasting, they make my worst list

"When you lead off an inning with a home run, you have a greater chance of scoring multiple runs that inning than if you do leading off with a walk."
WOW!!!

"When you lead off an inning with a home run, you have a greater chance of scoring multiple runs that inning than if you do leading off with a walk."I remember that one. Almost like when John Madden says something like the team that scores the most will win. Not of fan of McCarver as well.

I think he was responding to the thought that a homerun tends to end a rally, whereas baserunners rattle the pitcher toward giving up more than one run even if none have scored yet.
If you go into the bottom of the 9th down by 2 or 3 and you get a leadoff HR, it tends to feel like..well..thats it..we had our big blast, we're not gonna win. When you lead off with a walk the feeling is ok..here we go..the hitter knows we need him to have a productive AB and the pitcher is feeling the pressure so he's tighter.
His point was that it's silly to think that way. The way he phrased it made him sound like an idiot though. I know everybody loves to rag on the guy, and his uninsightful insights can be monotonous and condescending, but he's a lot better than many other guys.
If you get the mlb.com package and try watching games, the worst I saw were KC. (I have Gordon and Butler on my keeper team so I saw these guys a lot.) They were just painful. Milwaukee's crew wasn't too much better.
Vin Scully is crazy awesome and possibly the least homer guy out of any local broadcaster.
Locally, I always liked Kay. Suzyn Waldman is unlistenable. Sterling is a showman which is nice when the Yanks are doing well, but he can get whiny when they're slumping. I actually like the Bastin crew also. I forget who it is..Rich Gedmen..umm...caniglieri..I dont remember. They seemed relatively intelligent and entertaining.

I get sick looking at Joe Morgan even before he even opens his mouth....McCarver is in a league all by himself....He's tough to beat....Joe Buck would be pumping gas if not for his father....Steve Phillips is painful, John Kruk should just shove a pizza in his mouth anytime he attempts to utter a single word...The ones I like are all dead....

"if he wants to bring that average up, he's gonna have to start getting some base hits..."

I have to say I am a fan of the classics, and most if not all are not around anymore, sad to say. Jack Buck announcing Cardinals games on KMOX when I was growing up, Marty Brenneman and Joe Nuxhall for Reds games, Johnny Most for the Celtics, and Vin Scully. I could not stand Harry Caray!! Two current broadcasters I like are Dan Dierdorf on NFL broadcasts, and Mick Hubert for the Florida Gators (although I may be the only person that missed Scot Brantley from the Gators broadcast). Gene Deckerhoff is really good as well on radio for the Seminoles and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Kornheiser is weak in any format. MNF...news formats...guest appearances. I can't understand how any one listens to him for more than 15 seconds
