A couple of theories here:

Competition: In the NCAA, FREE THROWS MATTER! Games aren't normally in the 100's, and margins of victory aren't often in the 40s, like in the NBA. A simple made free throw means so much more at the college level.  Also, as far as teams go, UNCA is playing for something, and right now the Suns making the playoffs is a foregone conclusion. When Shaq was with the Heat, them NOT making the playoffs were a foregone conclusion. His past teams just didn't need him to hit free throws, either.

Height: Kenny is 7'7" , Shaq is 7'1".   Being an extra 1/2 a foot above the rim from an equal distance gives Kenny an edge from sheer physics.

Coaching: NBA coaches don't teach fundamentals anymore, but you can bet UNCA's Eddie Biedenbach covers all of them. It can't be easy working with a big man at the charity stripe, I'm sure the pro coaches would rather worry about other areas.

p.s. I haven't seen the Double-Decker Taco at Taco Bell lately. Perhaps they discontinued it. Remember that commercial back in the day? They were Shaq's secret to FTs.

I dont see the physics thing. I think shaqs main problem is his hands are just too big so his shot is really flat. I couldnt imagine George having smaller hands than shaq, and it doesnt  seem like a flat shot would be any better being 6 inches taller.

Kenny George is the worst big man playing this game.   He will cost NC in this game and cost them a chance at the tourney.  He is one of the worst players playing college basketball today.

He has no coordination whatsoever.  If he wasn't as tall as a small building he wouldn't be playing basketball.  Even for an intramural team somewhere.  He has no business playing college basketball.

Kenny's improved by leaps and bounds since last year. I think it's more his joints that hold him back than his actual ability. He can shoot free throws and I even saw him make a couple decent dishes during the season. If he improves as much as he did from last year to this year he may actually be a force.

Winthrop shut him down today though. That was nice.

I know this would be very unlikely but do you think that UNC Asheville has any chance of making the Tourney as an at large bid (any chance at all)  I didn't see the games but they only lost to Tennessee and UNC by 13 and 12 respectively and those are both top ten if not top 5 teams in the country.  Asheville can play so why not give them a chance.

Look who's in the NIT? It's UNC AshEville. Better luck THIS year.

It's not the big bracket, but we'll take it. The first Big South Conference team ever in the NIT. Good for the team and great for the league.
