I run a pretty successful keeper league with 22 teams but we'll be dispersing 2 teams this coming offseason -we use cbs to simple generate our stats because our scoring system is too unique for them to handle

 

smaller leagues are the way to go (12 -20 )

12 is perfect. We have fallen down to 8 for various reasons and there is just to much talent out there for that small a league. And the winnings aren't as nice  Hope to add a few more teams to get back up to the 12 but it's tough. Fantasy Football, you could form a new league in a heart beat and get 20 teams. Hockey can sometimes be like pulling teeth to find people who are interested.

I ran my league with 9 last year and 8 this year.  Im hoping for 10 next year but you never know.  9 was a mess because of the uneven schedule in my head to head league.  8 was fine we have free add/drops for most of the season so its fun to search for gems.  Even at 8 teams with three lines or 9 fwds 6 dmen the dmen get really thin during the season.  I also have two IR spots where owners can keep players that are hurt bad til they come back or guys like Selanne who may or may not sign at some point.
