During the Badger mens basketball game a couple weeks ago against Michigan State on ESPN, Brent Musberger made a comment about Wisconsin asking the NCAA to allow Micahel Flowers to stay for another season and play football as a shutdown defender.  Does anybody know if this is actually going to happen?  And what would be your thoughts on this?

I don't know what the rules are regarding it, but I would love to see Flowers out there as a DB (assuming he's still any good at football).  Flowers hasn't exactly ruled it out, but everytime he's asked about it he says that basketball is what he's focused on and that's what he wants to explore after the season is over.

In interviews, Flowers indicated that basketball remains his first choice.  He intends to pursue a pro career and see where that takes him.  Plan B is to give football a try -- but only if basketball doesn't get him anywhere.

My guess is he is good enough to play in Europe for a reasonable sum of money.  Although he has great speed and quickness, being away from football for five years does not suggest that he will be a good football player with only a month or two of practice.

Flowers eligibility expires this spring, there is nothing that cane be done about that. he cannot play football next year. but that would be pretty sweet!

Are you sure?  There's a guy on Northwestern's basketball team that played football for four years and then played basketball this year.  I don't think that because Flowers' basketball eligibility has expired it means that he can't play football.

the only way you can have more than 4 years of eligibility is by redshirting, either medically or just sitting out. he could have played a certain number of games before medically redshirting. there is no difference between basketball eligibility and football eligibility. say my friend kyle doesn't even play sports. after 4 years at UW his eligibility is expired. at least thats what i understand from all those boring compliance meetings.

We've never heard of fifth and sixth-year seniors around here? I definitely have. I could have sworn that people are able to file for another year of eligibility.

While you're at it, BadgerDiver, can you tell him that some random guy called ButtonTops on CBS-Sportsline thinks he's a great player? Tell the whole team if you can. I'm sure it'll be quite the rally cry. The rare win one for the ButtonTops speech.

Micheal flowers is a very good basketball player with at the very least NBA aspirations. He will make a lot of $ playing b-ball somewhere.
