Anyone know anything about this guy? 3 star recruit just committed out of Ohio. As far as I know that was our last scholarship available. Also not sure if a shooting guard is what we need. Sure love have the two trees in the middle like this year.
This guy committed last year, he is part of the class that is coming here in the fall of 2008. As i recall he was the second committ of this class, not the last. He is a swingman type player as he is a very tall and athletic shooting guard. He will be capable of playing the 3 spot as well. So we got a true center in Markoff, an athletic PF/C in Berggerren, a PG in Jordan Taylor and an atheltic/lanky swingman/SF/SG in Robert Wilson. Sounds like a really balanced and well thought out four man class to me.

A shooting guard was exactly what we needed. Take a look at the depth chart for next year:
PG: Hughes, Taylor
SG: Bohannon, Wilson
SF: Krabbenhoft, Jarmusz
PF: Landry, Nankivil, Gullikson*
C: Leuer, Berggren, Markolf
That looks pretty balanced to me. From what I've read about him I believe his strengths are his size for his position, his three point shot, and his defense.
The four incoming freshman are taking the scholarships opened up by Butch, Stiemsma, and Flowers leaving and the one that Bo banked for next year by giving it to Mo Cain for this year. The asterisk next to Gullikson's name is because we don't know what his punishment for drinking ticket #3 is. L.A. Pomlee (a 6-8, 220 lb PF from Iowa) reportedly is going to receive an offer and become the fifth member of next year's class if he qualifies, which would probably mean Gullikson would not have his scholarship renewed (and it's my opinion that if that happens he won't be asked to come back at all next year).

Can we assume that there will only be 3 spots open for '09. With Taylor, and Brusewitz already commiting. Any thoughts on what we need to fill other positions?
Look at the class that is leaving: Landry (6-7 PF/SF), Krabbenhoft (6-7 PF/SF/SG), and the original member Mickey Perry (SG) (Gullikson got his schollie). Now look at the class that is replacing them at the moment: Bruesewitz (6-8 PF/SF and conveniently just as hard to spell) and Diamond Taylor (6-3 SG that can handle the ball). Add to that Jamil Wilson (6-6 PF/SF) and it would make a pretty much perfect class. If you want to look at stars (as per Rivals), Wilson is a 5, Taylor is a 4, and Bruesewitz is a 3. That's a solid class, especially because Taylor and Bruesewitz wouldn't be asked to contribute immediately.
I don't know if I would assume there will be three spots open for '09. I don't know the odds of Pomlee qualifying, but if that happens then the '09 class will only be Taylor and Bruesewitz. The scenarios that would increase the number of schollies open would be a transfer (Jarmusz was a possibility, but I don't think it will happen because the PT he got in the second half of the season showed that he'll have a large role next year, I don't see anyone else transfering so I don't think a transfer will increase the number of schollies) or someone leaving early for the NBA (Hughes is the only one I could see doing this, and I don't think the odds of that happening are very high).
Sconnie, if we sign Pomlee and he comes next year, does that mean we no longer have a schollie for Jamil Wilson the year after and the 09 class will become a 2 man class??? I am trying to work the math and it is not adding up for me
Nevermind, you answered my question I just didn;t read far enough. That said, do we really want to give Pomlee a scholarship is it means losing Jamil??? If we can actually get to the final four I think that would go a LONG way toward securing a verbal from him for '09. He is the type of player who can ignite a serious elevation the quality of player Bo recruits. I still want quality guys who buy into Bo's system, but those guys exist a higher level of playing ability too. They just usually go to Duke or UCLA, but with a Final Four (or better) I think we can make runs at those caliber of players going forward
Yeah, signing Pomlee would leave Bo with no more open for '09. The only scenario I see for another schollie opening would be Hughes having a monster, Big10 POY season and jumping to the pros - but that would leave the Badgers extra short at guard and I would expect Bo to bring in a lower-division transfer as a stop-gap measure. But either way I don't think that will happen. The worst part about it is that it would basically GIVE Wilson to Marquette.
Also, Pomlee won the Iowa-Illinois All Star game slam dunk contest. I guess any questions I had about his athleticism are now answered. I'm gonna have to search Youtube for some highlights on my next study break.
I take back what I said about Wilson not having the best shot. It's safe to say that he's a must-have. If Bo is bringing in Pomlee because he doesn't want to wait until Wilson commits next year I'd be very disappointed.
I would be absolutely psyched if Bo signed Maymon. You could describe him as a poor-man's Jamil Wilson, which would be correct if the first guy is a multi-millionaire and the second just a poor millionaire. Unfortunately I don't think it's going to happen. He's got a lot of work to do academically, and even then there are several recruits that are probably ahead of him on Bo's list. And that's not even taking into account the rumors that Maymon's dad said there's no way Jeronne would play for Wisconsin without Bo finding a spot for his older brother Devonte.
At this point you'd have a hard time convincing me that Jeronne won't be the POY again next year and that Memorial won't win the title with him and Vander Blue.
