ranked to start the 2008-2009 Men's Basketball Season? With three returning starters and Jason Bohannon stepping into the starting SG position we seem pretty set at PG with Trevon Hughes, SG with Jason Bohannon, SF with Joe Krabbenhoft , PF with Marcus Landry, and center is a ??? with Greg Steimsma and Brian Butch leaving...

Well anyway, year after year Bo has brought us into the top 25 and in my opinion should be ranked in the top 20 to start the year...

Thoughts?

Talk about an inferiority complex, the Spartans get done getting lambasted by Memphis and the first thing you do is run over to the Badgers forum to celebrate their exit from the tournament?  It's not even comparable what a better season Wisconsin had compared with MSU considering the expectations coming into this season.  I wish both Big 10 teams had won, but I'm glad we swept the Spartans again this year and won 2 Big 10 championships.  When was the last year MSU won something?

Then you sir are not very bright.  The tournament is a lot of fun and it is an accomplishment to get to the final four but it is not indicative of a better season than winning a conference title.  Teams can get lucky and find themselves in the final four.  It happens all the time.  Teams that win conference titles earn them over a period of months and the luck factor is diminished.

You have basically stated that you would rather be lucky than good.  Congrats on the 2005 final four.  MSU was lucky not to face UNC in the elite eight that year.

im not very bright for liking our final 4 banners more than i would a big 10 championship? wow u sound not too bright. winning the big 10 is nothing to brag about. the conference is weak especially the lower half.teams are measured on their tournament runs. when u see the stats for this weeks final 4 games they show how many final 4's and championships the teams have been to not how many pac 10 titles ucla has won.just keep winning your big 10 titles and be happy with a sweet 16 at best every year lmaoooooo. yea and by the way i like your avatar... wow a pic of the team holding up the big 10 trophey. where schools like state judge by final 4's and championships.u like my avatar? thats a REAL trophey! and by the way making the final 4 four times in 10 years isnt lucky. hard to win 5 games on luck alone. dam wisconsin must have no luck in the tournament...oh yea not the big 10 officials. now like i said before im done if wisconsin cheers for mediocrity then so be it. i could care less if we finished 4th in the big 10 and still made the final 4 because everyone remembers who went to the final 4 not who won the big 10 championship!

everyone remembers who went to the final 4 not who won the big 10 championship!Um... no.  Champions get remembered.  Obviously the NCAA champion gets remembered more than the conference ones, and getting to the Final Four is kind of a prerequisite for winning it all, but you don't remember who finishes 2-4.  Congratulations on getting to a Final Four, but don't call home unless you actually win something.

wht I'm reading from this cleeves character has to be some the dumbest coments I've had the displeasure of reading in some time. Go back under your bridge and maybe in another 5 yrs you can enjoy your team losing in the Final four again.

This is the reason why so many of us dislike Michigan State so much, fans like this cleaves guy.  MSU has obviously been one of the most successful programs in the nation over the past 10 years, particularly in the tournament.  Cleaves is right though that the media judges teams and coaches by their tourney runs even though it doesn't make a whole heck of a lot of sense.  But why would the media make sense?

For Bo Ryan and the Wisconsin program to be given the level of respect by the national media that they already probably deserve, they will have to make a Final Four.  And then they'll have to get to a National Final.  And then they'll have to win one.  And then they'll have to compete for an maybe win another.  It's a progression, and I've been on record saying that we're finally starting to see the type of teams that we can expect to see from Bo and the Badgers.  The last two years...61-11 record.  The tourney wins and national respect will come.  Just be patient and don't be one of those fans that complains about getting no respect all of the time.  It's gotten old.

To answer your original question, I'd expect to see Wisconsin ranked around 18 to 22 to start the year next year.

We've gone off on a tangent.  Don't debate nonsence  with someone who is acting out without a rational or logical basis.  The Big Ten will be stronger and more competitive next year.  Wisconsin will be ranked, initially because: the writers are influenced by the past performance of a team and they seriously misjudged Wisconsin this year, the coaches will rank Wisconsin because of its' returning players and what Bo can do with them.  To stay ranked all we have to do is win.  What team has won the most Big Ten games during the last seven years?  Wisconsin.  What team won the second most games?  Illinois.  What about Michigen State?

The Badgers will be ranked in the bottom third of the Top 25, probably around 21.  This is of course a blind guess.
