As for the illegal contact - it should stay, otherwise the NFL would have 15-yard penalties every time a defender breathes heavily on a receiver. It's a good penalty that only Patriots fans seem to disfavor (probably because Polian was key in convincing the league to enforce it since it had been a rule for some time). There needs to be an offensive illegal contact as well, though. It isn't fair for defenders to nudge receivers and only incur a 5-yard automatic 1st down penalty while receivers get tagged with 15-yard PI penalties. I suspect that's part of the reason receiver push-offs are called so infrequently. At least with an offensive illegal contact that is called regularly, receivers would be less likely to push off as much.

I could live with that as long as the illegal contact extended to the offense as well as the defense I think thats the hypocrisy of the situation i'm of the mindset let them play physical, I understand the defenseless reciever rule to an extent but we don't outside of the Warren Sapp rule extend the same courtesy to the defense they are far less protected by the rules.

I agree this should have been done years ago. It will be interesting to see how this effects no-huddle offenses like the Colts and Patriots now that a d-coordinator will be able to relay info to the defense. I suspect this is probably one of the reasons the Patriots have voted against it up until now, since they do run some no-huddle in key situations. The offenses will be able to control the defenses still whether they have communication or not. They aren't going to send a play out until they recognize what the offense is setting up in. Its a rule that defensive signals can't be given when there is 15 or less seconds on the play clock. So in turn teams like the Colts and Pats will manipulate it by running more no-huddle plays or giving the play early and substituting later once the play clock is around 18 or so, or even audible to a completely different formation. By then no signal can be given nor enough time to see what the formation will be to relay it to the defender who is the play caller. Its still a big chess game, but I think the offense still will have the upper hand and still can manipulate the defense to the point of making the "miked signal calling" not worth much.

And all that happens before they get penalized for delay of game.

Wow. that's some system. Too bad it's

FRIGGIN IMPOSSIBLE

Sure, real impossible.  Hey, they're calling a half back dive up the middle.  Let's blitz the middle.  That must have taken an eternity.  How slow are you?

I'm not here to prove anything to you.  I grew tired of the Patriots fans last October.

Well, you just did.

You just proved that you're every bit the moron as Matt Walsh, and everybody else who throws accusations out there hoping they stick.  Even if they don't stick, even if they have zero credibility, they're still damaging.  And that's all you're looking for.

Not one, not one single time has anybody ever accused the Patriots of having illegal headsets in a defensive players helmet.  NOT ONE SINGLE TIME.  But hey, why let that inconvienent fact get in the way of your stupid assertion?

You might as well just say that the Patriots are all on steriods, and carry brass kuckles to beat up linemen. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

Headsets in the defensive players helmet? Please.

Err....

Aren't we talking about the Patriots filming DEFENSIVE signals?  Or are you just 'changing the channel' so to speak?

Here's my theory.  The Pats would somehow jam the other team's QB mic forcing them to call play by hand signals.  The hand signals would then be interpretted from the video taping.  The defensive counter would then be called into their illegally mic'd defensive player.  Brilliant scheme actually.

Tee hee hee.....

"The hand siglans would then be interpreted from the video TAPING....."

So you're gonna tell me that the signals are taped, handed to a lackey who then runs up to the booth, hands it to the defensive co-ordinator, who puts it in a machine, rewinds it to the appropriate play, figures it out, then mics in to... oh I dunno, Vrabel's helmet what the play is going to be, and Vrabel communicates an audible to the rest of the defense on what play is going to come.  Brilliant.  Just brilliant.

One question though - what's stopping the offense from running that play in the time that the defense is running around to counter it?

Who's the slow one?

no comment.

Just what I expected.

Did you hear the Orioles actuall PROVIDED Miguel Tejada with performance enhancing drugs?  Seriously!

The Ravens even went so far as to provide Ray Lewis an alibi for that murder he committed.

Wow.  Making up stories sure is fun.  Maybe I'll try that.

It's a message board not a court of law.

I heard Teddy Bruschi hides HIV infected syringes in his pads and then sticks other team's players with them.

This is fun.
