What makes the Cubs so special, that they should be ranked so high. They have relief problems, a lineup with no lead off hitter, and are weak in the middle infield. After Zambrano I think you are going to see real issues with the starting pitching. Wood as the closer huh? Whatever.

Who is our relief problems? We have one of the best bullpens in the Majors. We have 3 or 4 players that can or will in the future leadoff. We just have to pick one. And I would take wood as a closer anyday. The reason we are so high is because we have a team that can contend with any team and we actually have a chance this year. The Brewers have a great team too. I think they should be a little higher. I also think you guys are going to have the starting pitching trouble after Sheets. Hopefully Sheets can stay healthy for you guys.

Wow that may be the weakest argument I have ever heard against the Cubs. 1) The bullpen does not have issues. Cubs have a solid bullpen who were reliable last year. They have Marmol, Howry, Wuertz, Lieber and will have Eyre when he comes back. Theres really no issues there. Lou will realzie that Soriano needs to go into the leadoff spot and Fukudome will move into 2. What could possibly be wrong with our starting pitchers? Last year three of our starters poster season ERA's under 4. We had one of the strongest starting pitching units in the MLB. You can't really judge Wood as a closer after one game. So dont bash on the Cubs unless you got the facts!

Here's a fact: The Cubs are an overrated team with overated players. Look, nearly all of your players are good and have talent, but the Cubs seem to be missing something which gives them an opportunity to make a deep run in the playoffs. Z is an excellent pitcher, but after him the Cubs are not as strong as the other teams in the NL. The Brew Crew have Sheets, then a couple of guys that can get it done. Bush can get wins in tight situations, Gallardo can pitch lights out and smack a ball into left. I wish Cordero played one more year in Milwaukee considering the power lineup the Brewers have. Braun in the outfield will be better considering he is probably the worst third baseman I have ever watched. In the end, The Brewers will barely win the series between the two, and I think the Cubs and Brewers will both make the playoffs via the central spot or wild card. I just dont believe the Cubs are as low as a 7 and I cant believe they will make a run in the playoffs which many anylast have predicted.

Are you even basing your opinions on anything? The numbers bare it out...the Cubs had one of the best staffs in the bigs last year, and are looking like they will again this year. You can't argue with fact.
And I love how Brewers fans talk about Sheets like he's a legitimate #1 starter. Unless he pitches a full year, he's not. And his track record predicts that he won't. The Brewers' starting pitching as it stands right now is too weak to contend for a division crown. Too many rookies, over the hill veterans, and an injury-prone #1 doesn't a division winner make.

Who are the Brewer "rookies" you refer to? Every position player aside from the ROOKIE OF THE YEAR has at least 1 full year under their belt. And who are the over the hill veterans aside from Counsell(who will come off the bench)? Talk about not having facts straight.
I'll give you that Sheets is not a legit #1 and will probably be going on the DL for Nintendo thumb shortly. But you've got to remember he's in a contract year and will be at least an 18-20 game winner because of it. We've got a legitimate 7 starters, not lights out, but they at least give us a chance to win every night. The bullpen has been retooled and alot of depth in the outfield will translate into a trade for more middle relief, and maybe a closer if fatso Gauge me doesn't get his crap together.
Plus we haven't been losers for a century.

These early season rankings are always fun to see. The Cubbies did take the division last year, so that's probably why they are so high right now. Having a healthy Sheets for a full season will not guarantee the Brew Crew will take the division either. Letting Cordero go to the Reds left a huge hole at closer, and the $10 mil Gagne gamble has me frightened. Thankfully the huge bats should be able to offset that closer hole. As for the Cubs, I think this 100 year media hype is going to give them fits and get into their heads, whether the players admit it or not. I predict they will finish with a 90 in their record, but whether it is in the W column or the L column has yet to be seen.

At least the Brew Crew has played in the World Series more recently. 1982, remember? When they lost to the freakin' Cards. At least Cubs fans and Brewers fans can agree on one thing, a shared hatred of the Cardinals.

The usual Brewer statement about not losing for a century...you can't lose for a century when you haven't even been around that long. When you win ANYTHING you can talk.
Brewers and White Sox fans should have a trailer park get together, they all have the same insecurities they can talk about. I hate the Cardinals, but at least their fans have some class.

And winning the 1982 AL pennant doesn't count? Yeah, yeah, no one remembers 2nd place...but that still was the best in the AL that year. So, I'd say that's winning something.

Who won the division last year? Oh yeah, the Cubs. And speaking of relief problems how bout Gagne? He was awful last year and looks to be on the same path. Woody had a good season last year and WILL get back on track.

Sorry to intrude.... I'm just a Cardinals fan sneaking into this thread to point out one minor thing...
...the NL Central looks like it's gonna be a helluva lot of fun this year. Here's to a killer summer of baseball.

I believe the Cubs should be even higher than what they are. They have one of the most potent offenses in the whole mlb. With soriano, ramirez, lee, and fukudome name me a lineup with a better four. Then you add in players like derosa, theriot, soto and pie. Their starting pitchting after zambrano might not be great but not many teams have 3-5 good starters. The bullpen is probably the biggest strength and woody looks really good, world series baby!
