The fact that A-Rod makes more that the Marlins whole team or That the Marlins whole team makes less than the highest paid player in the game?

Its not even close. You can't just put A-rod on there when there are 2 other guys, giambi and Jeter also making more plus guys like Manny, Ichiro, Santana, Beltran, helton, Torri Hunter all making within a servicable relief pitcher of the Marlins too.

It is sad that the marlins are where they are at. At least when you are talking about the other small market teams they are at least closer to the $50 million range than anything else.

Even if the marlins open up their wallets, i just don't see top flight free agents flocking their way to south florida to sign. They need to get that team out of there.

I put Arod there cause hes the top paid player thats all. Not a bias or anything. Ive already covered that. Should the Marlins be contracted? Should there be a minimum salary like in hockey?

I say its both sad that one player can make more than a whole team and that florida has a cheap @ss team like the marlins.

The Marlins make me laugh.  You would think with the number of Major League ball players from the state of Florida, and all that baseball in the state year around that the Marlins would be having this much problems in an open football stadium.  The Marlins minor league club, Albuquerque Isotopes, nearly matched their single attendance on several occasions.  This franchise knows how to evaluate talent which is apparent, they've shown that they can and will spend money for big free-agents, they've shown that they been able to compete in the N.L. East, and it's not like the city of Miami is a small market area.  Maybe the new stadium with a retractable roof and being called the Miami Marlins in 2011will make the owner, casual fans, etc. serious about baseball again.

The Marlins being cheap just sucks for the Marlins fans. A-Rod being expensive jacks the price up for all free agents, meaning owners will raise the prices more than the normal hike and draw us closer to a lock out once they've had enough. It also distances the rich teams from the poor teams as far as being able to compete.

Oh, and is "TERRRRR ble" a Charles Barkley impression?

Excellent Post EMTB...Not much for me to add, other than that I agree...I stated yesterday that a salary minimum is as important and is as needed as a salary cap....I think the Marlins pocketed something like $70 million in revenue sharing so a payroll of $18 mill is quite ridiculous
