I know it makes no difference but there is something about this that really bothers me. Yesterday I was watching the end of the Rangers-Devils game just to hate on the Rangers, and after the game they announced that the Rangers won the challenge with a 10-3-3 record against the 2 other area teams. Meanwhile they had the Islanders in second place with an 11-4-1 record. Both teams had 23 points, and if I'm not mistaken the normal tie breaking for the NHL is the team with more wins finishes ahead of the other team. Why then would the Rangers be considered ahead? Is it because it was on the MSG network? Is it because the biased Ranger announcers made the decision? Why?
Now again, I know this doesn't matter, and I could easily understand if the reason was because if the tie breaker was based on a playoff appearance, but nothing was said about the reasoning. I just hate the lack of respect the MSG network shows both the Islanders and Devils, because they aren't the teams that play in their building. I guess really I'm just venting.
