Just caught word that Ryan Evans just committed to us for next year. He states that he will have a full-scholarship.
This brings up two questions for me?
1. Does anyone know anything about this kid bessides 6'6" shooting guard from AZ?
2. I thought we only had 4 scholarships left? The rumor I heard was that Mo Cain was getting one for next year, which left 4 remaining.
Fill us in if you have some more info....

Here's some more info:
Here's some more stuff on Evans.
Here's what was up with the scholarship situation for next year:
- Butch, Stiemsma, and Flowers are graduating. Bo is also getting the scholarship back that he banked by giving it to Mo Cain this year. That gave him four schollies to play with.
- Berggren, Jordan, Wilson, and Markolf took those scholarships.
- Gullikson likely lost his scholarship because of the drinking ticket in January. Coach Gard (sp?) said that he'll be back next year, but if Evans is getting a scholarhsip then it means that he's getting the one that Gullikson had. There's also the possibility that someone transfering, but there's been no chatter about that happening.
In nonscholarship news, Wquinton Smith won't be coming back next year, and I'm not sure if Brett Valentyn will be. That opens up the nonscholarship spot for Gullikson and possibly one for L.A. Pomlee or Isiah Nunn to come in as preferred walk-ons.
This makes the 2009 class full as well because Gullikson's scholarship was supposed to last through next year. That means that Jamil Wilson is out in the snow for now, which is unfortunate because Crean leaving for Indiana should have been a huge advantage for Bo. A lot can happen between now and March 8th of next year, though. Look for someone (Gavinski please take one for the team) to transfer if it's going to happen.

That makes sense about Gully losing his scholarship. Wouldnt Wilson be able to snag either Landry's, Krabb's, or Cain's?

Cain's is gone, his was only for one year as mentioned above, it is going to Ian Markoff in next years class (aka Cain does NOT have a schollie for next year). Krabbs and Landry's schollies are spoken for by Bruesewitz (sp?) and Diamond Taylor in the '09 class who have already committed. The only way we can get Jamil Wilson now is if someone takes one for the team and/or transfers out (I am with Sconnie/Komacki, I hope Gavinski decides to go elsewhere, for his own sake and the sake of the program). I like this Evan's kid and I like him coming here but we need to find a way to get Jamil Wilson a scholarship, we can't lose that kid to MSU or Marquette, it will come back to haunt us if we do.

Cain only got a scholarship for this past year because Bo was banking it for next year's incoming class. It's already gone (you could say that it went to Robert Wilson). Diamond Taylor and Mike Bruesewitz have already committed for the following year, taking the scholarships that will be opened up by Landry and Krabs graduating. That's why another one has to open up in order for Jamil Wilson to be a Badger.
This might help if you're having trouble keeping track of it.

There's also speculation that Evans' scholarship isn't necessarily his for all four years. That means that he would be on scholarship next year, but it could be given to Jamil Wilson in 2009.

Wow, how balanced is next years class. You've got the point guard in Jordan Taylor, a shooting guard/swingman in Robert Wilson, a SF in Ryan Evans, an athletic PF/C in Jared Berggren and a true beast of a center (size wise) in Ian Markoff. Bo didn't leave a stone unturned in this class did he........ The best part is when you research them all 5 can score but all five are also good defenders. I think I like this class as much as i have liked any class the Badgers have ever gotten

I would like to think that Bo has a backwards plan to pick up Jamil Wilson. Whether that be Gullickson transferring or Evans only getting a one year scholarship, I don't care...just find a way to get Wilson, especially after Crean leaving. I agree that if he ends up at MSU, we may be a sad group of individuals from 2010-2013 watching a star prospect lighting us up.
However, with the balanced 2008 class, does Jamil Wilson look at that balanced squad as a great people to feed the ball to and commits to UW, or see Diamond Taylor as competition and seniority (which seems key in Bo's system) and goes somewhere else? I hope it's the former.
GO BADGERS!!!
