It was a great game to be sure but in the top three or four of all time? C'mon now Mike. I appreciate that you are caught up in the moment and all,  but here are a few Championship games that top that one.

1983 NCAA - NC State vs. Houston

1987 NCAA - Indiana vs. Syracuse

2008 Super Bowl - Giants vs. Pats

2002 Super Bowl - Pats vs. Rams

2001 Wolrd Series Game Seven- D- Backs vs Yankees

1997 World Series Game Seven- Marlins vs Indians

1991 World Series Game Seven- Twins vs Braves  "Jack Morris' 10 inning shutout"

1960 World Series game Seven - Pirates vs Yankess: Mazeroski walk-off HR.

1967  NFL Championship - Cowboys vs. Packers "The Ice Bowl"

1987 AFC Championship: Cleveland Browns vs Denver Broncos

Super Bowl III Jets vs. Colts

1958- NFL Chamionship Colts vs Giants

And those are just off the top of my head. Sometimes you need to settle down and take a deep breath before writing, Freeman.

1994 Orange Bowl/Unofficial National Championship - Nebraska over Miami

1988 World Series Game 1 - Dodgers vs. A's: Kirk Gibson's hobbled walk-off home run that set the tone for one of the bigger W.S. upsets of the last 20 years

How 1952 UNC/Kansas triple OT final featuring Wilt "the stilt" Chamberlain? If your counting the 58 colts game then i think this one is probably the best CBB title game.

I don't understand how people consider this one of the greatest.

In crunch time (in no particular order):

Memphis was 1/5 from the free throw line.  They commited a costly turnover.  Kansas's Collins makes a stupid play trying for a layup against two guys bigger than him.  The Memphis player tries for a layup with 16 sec instead of holding or dishing the ball to a more open player.  Kansas lets Memphis rebound a missed free throw with 16 secs left.  Memphis can't commit a foul to prevent a 3-pt attempt at the end.  And I believe that Memphis could've called a TO w/ 2 secs to play to set up a last second shot.

With so many errors down the stretch, I can't see calling this one of the greatest.  Exciting, yes, but not a great finish.

You are absolutely correct, uomogrande!  Great post!

Regarding greatest NCAA BB Championship games...add in '82 UNC-Georgetown and '86 Villanova-Georgetown.  WOW, come to think of it, we really got spoiled in the 80's with some great NC games!

Uomo, wanted Memphis to win perhaps? That would have been a way better game if Memphis sealed it with FT's??? Thats stupid even if i wasn't a KU fan i would have been rooting for that finish to happen, those type of comebacks and not knowing exactly how the finish is going to happen is what makes sports great. That fact people are going back 25 years to try  and name a game better proves to me that it was a great game and one of the best finals ever.

Why does everything have to be an error?  When something is an error for one team its normally a great play for the other.  Such as "memphis committed a coslty turnover" could be seen as "kansas made a huge steal." Or "Kansas lets Memphis reboauch a free throw with 16 secs lef" could be "Memphis comes up with a clutch rebound after a missed free throw" "Kansas' Collins makes a stupid play for trying a layup against tow guys bigger than him" could be "Collins trys to make the game tying shot over two stout Memphis defenders and gets stopped by solid D."

Maybe you should try to look at things in the cliche "glass is half full" aspect instead of throwing a negative conotation on everything that happens because if you really wanted to you could say that every time a team scores the other team had a defensive collapse or should have done more to stop their opponent instead of saying that the offense made a great play.
