Troy Smith, QB, Baltimore Ravens
knoxville,
When Brady threw that TD pass, the wife and I were dancing in the living room.
Oh I tell you man... I couldn't believe Gaffney managed to pull that ball in. I saw him streaking to the left corner of the endzone, and I saw Brady start to throw it, and I was like "NOOO DON'T THROW IT. YOU WAITED TOO LONG!" But Brady, being Brady, got that ball of at the exact right time, beat the coverage, won the game... Done deal.
And believe me living in Knoxville, I might as well live in Indianapolis, this being Peyton's second home town and all.
Ugh... Satan Manning. Dumb looking mother fu*ker... And his little bitc* brother... Seriously I bet they just stay home all day during the offseason and play Madden (with Peyton being the Colts and Eli being the Giants - naturally)... Tennessee is a great place, but I really just don't like going there because of how much Peyton Manning fanfare there is...
My point was If we didn't play so hard week 17, who knows maybe we aren't even playing the Giants in the Super Bowl.
Yeah, who knows... I was sure the Packers were going to beat the Giants in the playoffs, but seeing as they gave Tynes way too many chances to make a field goal, I would have been shocked if the Giants had blown that many chances to win the game. Maybe if we hadn't played them hard in week 17, they wouldn't have gotten all that momentum and confidence and, as you said, not even made it to the Superbowl... But life is full of "what if's," so all we can do is accept it and look forward to the Giants sucking a big one next season...
In hind sight, I don't think any other NFC team puts together a game plan like that to beat us.
Oh absolutely not... The NFC was weak enough this year... Who was going to beat us - the Redskins... Oh wait, 52-7... Nevermind - haha. But no, the Giants put together a solid gameplan and realized that the key to breaking our offense is putting constant pressure on Brady, and with a d-line like theirs, it was very feasible...
BB was driven in a different sort of way this year, I don't know if it was all the negative press or what, but I feel, as the season wore on, he really didn't seem the same.
He was just pissed that everyone was saying he's an awful coach, and the only reason he's won anything is because of his players and his tapes... If I was one of the greatest coaches in NFL history, and people called me out like that, I would make it my personal goal to destroy each and every person that gets in my way. And teams like Washington and Indianapolis and Buffalo and Miami (etc...) were just collateral damage... BB was pissed - rightfully so, and teams were dumb enough to challenge him...
I knew we were in trouble when he showed up on Super Bowl Sunday with that red hoodie (lol) instead of the grey one.
HAHA! I totally agree! When I saw him rocking the fresh, new bright red hoodie (with sleeves), I just took a step back and was like "What the hell?" No good, Bill... Gotta go with continuity... Homeless hoodie or bust...
but I think as the season came to a close, the BB in the press started to become the BB behind the scenes.
I mean... I kind of understand where you're going with that, but I don't think he changed that much.
1. Not going for the FG at the start of the 2nd half (not typical move on his part) 2. adjustments from halftime - none - I was expecting something, I mean hey, thats always been his strength. But nothing at all. 3. the last 30 seconds - 3 time outs + 30 secs
Yeah, I totally agree on the field goal... What was that about? I mean, against a team like Miami or New York (Jets), it's fine, because even if we fail to get it, we're still probably up by like 21 or something... But this is the Superbowl - the highest stage for professional football players. The team that you're playing deserves to be there just as much as you do, so don't take that lightly. If we had gone for that field goal, that would have been 3 more points, which could have changed the rest of the game... But instead, we fail to move the ball, and the Giants overtook the momentum. Yeah, there were zero adjustments... Still ran the ball poorly (actually ran the ball less, even though we were moving it well down the field for our first touchdown. But do we try to recreate that in the second half? No...), no protection up front, lax coverage, ughhh... just everything was bad... no bueno... Yeah, when Moss scored that touchdown to put us ahead, I was like "Ok, ok... Let's just play some damn defense and we've got it." But no sooner had I spoke, Samuel drops an interception, 3 of our defenders can't take down that skinny 15-year old Manning, Tyree catches the ball with his head, and Burress seals the deal...
sorry that was really the first time I had vented since the SB. I really didn't mean to go off. I just started to write and it all started to come out. I think we will be fine and everything is back to normal and a lesson learned by all
Hey, it's all good dude... I was literally in shock after that game. I just couldn't hear what anyone was saying and I didn't say anything myself... I was just in an awful mood for like the next 2 weeks... We hadn't lost all season, we were 3-0 in the Superbowl, and we had already beaten the Giants in their house just a few weeks ago... Everything was pointing to us winning that game, so no need to apologize for venting... I've vented quite a few times since that game, but it is what it is, and as you said, we'll be fine and we're just looking forward to next season... Should be a good one.
