81 years old and he still wants to coach football? Does this guy just not want to be at home?

I think someone should tell him that he should start enjoying his retirement. There is no reason he should be coaching till he dies on the field.

I think he enjoys his retirement every Saturday in the fall.  He just kind of spaces out and stands on the sideline while his assistants call the games.  Gotta love Joe Pa.

He coaches a Big Ten football team with a proud tradtion.  If you ask me he has the best retirement a man can ask for.  I would be enjoying every minute of it.

Never heard the phrase "...If you love what you do you'll never work a day in your life."? He wouldn't have stayed at Penn State for nearly 60 years if he didn't love his job and the school. He's not definitely not doing it for the money. There was a big fuss for years about  how much he was getting paid because it was info that Penn State and JP would not disclose. Then they finally had to release that info and come to find out he's one of the lower paid coaches in college football. Especially for a team the caliber of PSU making only about $500,000 a year (much of that he has donated back to the school) and thats a steal when you look at the success he's had. 2 national titles. 4 undefeated seasons. 2nd most division I wins behind Bobby Bowden and theres some debate behind that because bowden's win total includes I-AA wins while JP and i believe Bear Bryant's were all I-A. 79 years old he gets steamrolled by a Wisconsin player causing a compound fracture in his leg. The man had a bone sticking out and blood streaming down his leg and the trainers have to FORCE HIM to leave. You see him trying to stand up and his leg bending to the side and he wants to stay. There no way you can't say he loves what he does. His players are like his children. You hear stories of how his wife cooks these big sunday dinners for the players. Trust me he's having too much fun for retirement.

Exactly, people retire to do what they love.  He loves what he is doing.  He spends plenty of time with his wife and family so that is not an issue.

Those that bash JoePa do so for reasons that they simply do not understand or because they don't like him simply because they are a fan of another team.  Not very good reasons not to like a man that has done a lot for college football, PSU, and countless individuals.

Joe Pa is a testament to an old school way of thinking.  His dedication and loyalty to Penn State is a testament to his character.  Another saying to ponder, "A man's word is his bond."  No matter what team you claim as your team, you have to cheer for Joe Pa at least a little.  I say keep doing what you love Joe Pa!

joe is too old.  i think unless he wins 10 games this season this is a sign of things to come.  penn state has the most problems of any major football school with players running into the law.  maybe because jopa is to old to handle them.  dont get me wrong he is a great coach but i dont think he has it left.  how do u recruit players like Terrell Pryor when u cant guarentee how long the coach will be healthy enough to run the football program.  great career joe but hand it over to someone else.
