I want to personally thank the Devils and their fans for another great season. Anyone that attended the game last night saw the classless display that was put on by Ranger fans everywhere. Thank you to those fans that attended and also that showed their appreciation of standing and clapping while the Devils exited.
The Devils of 2007-2008 had every challenge thrown at them and they all took it to heart in a different way. From opening a new home to starting with a new coach and going on with tons of new players, this team had such adversity to fight through in the season. What a season of ups and downs. When October 4th 2007 came, I was excited and a little worried. I saw the Devils lose opening night in front of my eyes and I had some real doubts that this team would even make 8th place. At the turn of the new year, this team was on a roll again, like Devils teams of the past. They took the division and eventually topped the eastern conference. People from other teams were saying..."What, not again!" The Devils could not hold that lead and were beat out by some very good teams, but they still made the playoffs as the 4th seed.
In the playoffs they had such a challenge and working against adversity once again. From defensive troubles in Game 1 to Referee troubles in Game 2 to some outstanding work in Game 3 to again a late defensive trouble in Game 4 and finally having to come back from 4-1 in Game 5. Adversity plagued this team like a severe illness, but nothing ever killed them completely.
Seeing those boys last night, their passion is there and that is what we are to get excited about. There is an outstanding amount of talent, determination and grit in these Devils and some key additions in the off-season will only help. I look forward to seeing more and more Devils fans at the Rock next year and I look forward to cheering them on again.
Have a great off-season and as always Let's Go Devils.
49ersDevils,Great Summary.Hopefully may the offseason be filled with some Key additions, good news and something to build off this past season. This Season could very well be the foundation for a retooling to come.It will be interesting to see who nstays(resigns)and who leaves or is not offered a contract back.No doubt in my mind the Devils fought hard, till the end,as bitter as it was.In typical Devils fashion, they will rise again, may be some more bumps, but never a doubt this organization should recognize this and push onward....To Better Days.....Devils Thanks, and to some of the best Fans that have filled this Board and Newark,be proud, setbacks are only temporary to the determined!!
Well said 49ersDevilsOnly well said. We had a great season with a lot of ups and downs as you said and some things were just out of our control. Before the season started noone had the Devils in the running near the top of the division not to mention the conference. They really battled and to be able to accomplish what they did is amazing within itself. They have their needs in areas and some concerns, but there is never a perfect team out there that does not need or want something. These guys played their hearts out all season and made us Devil Fans proud. Now it is the offseason and hopefully some moves can be made and will be made and some of our Stars getting better. And this was suppose to be a down year yet we have so many positive things to come out of it.
OMG - that is one of the funniest posts I have ever read. Classless ranger fans huh - I guess you didn't see the Devils fan standing by the tunnel giving Girardi the finger after he skated off after giving a post game interview.
Where is the outstanding amount of talent? Don't you know that's why you got beaten like a drum. The devils need 5-6 forwards, at least 3 defensemen and a goalie before they can ever dream of winning another playoff series.
Oh and I guess your boy Marteeee the flounder gave the fans a lesson in how to be a classy devils player by not shaking hands huh.
They had a decent regular season but don't make more out of it than it is. They have more holes than a piece of swiss cheese
This was an interesting year with the Devils; at the beginning of the season no one was sure if they'd make the playoffs or not. A new coach, new players in the mix and as the season went by they fared off pretty well. By next year, hopefully after making an addition or two and getting the lines worked out, will perfect its chemistry and be a real force next year.
I am still proud that got as far as they did....11 times stright into the playoffs...nice.
With a little tweaking here & there for next year, it will be 12....and maybe a Stanley Cup to boot? You never know - you can bet I'll be rooting for it.
I always have and always will be true to my colors...and they are the black, white and red of the NJ Devils.
(Now hopefully I can fly out for the home opener next year...heard the Rock's a great place.)
Very well said 49ers. Everyone says the big surprise team of the year was the Habs or the Bruins, but I still think it's the Devils. Nobody thought they were making the playoffs at the begining of the year. Those sports sites who predicted they'd finish in 7th or 8th or whatever were just being generous I guess. Overall, I was satisfied and entertained with the team's overachievments this year. As always, I look forward to next year and can't wait to see how the team will look. I'll be checking in intently over the summer. Let's go Yankees and let's go Devils!
Need 5-6 forwards? Well then the Rangers better need 5-6 forwards because they sure didn't beat the Devils like a "drum", every game went down to the wire practically. at least 3 defenseman? no. A goalie..lol, go find your hole and jump into it.
Avery is the biggest loser going and he really definied class huh? Why doesn't he do the NHL a favor and just LEAVE.
Hope you have fun with the Pens, they will make the Rangers look like the frauds they are..
49ersdevils,Honestly I can say the Devils are out,to be a hater and wish the Rangers Misfortune and disaster is cheap and classless. Our horse isnt in the race so I am indifferent and unbiased. However the Pens sweep of the Senators clearly shows that they are going to beat the Rangers. There the favorites plain and simple.Lets see what Henry does against an offense that can generate consistenly and not in spurts.Pens take the series!
