Not because he's a sexy pick but because he's a dangerous one for other teams.
Look, I agree we need to address both lines, Defensive more than offensive. Some think we need another linebacker. I don't but it's a valid concern. What I'm concerned about is playing some rather stout defenses this year and them pinning their ears back and coming after our franchise QB. But more importantly i'm worried about them dropping into coverage because they're not scared taht we can make big plays on the ground anymore.
Think about this: Are teams going to be able to focus on our passing game if they're scared our RB will be able to shred them? If we have Mendenhall back there, a legitimate rookie impact player, are the going to be able to put as much pressure on our QB?
I say with Ryan Harris OR Chris Kuper starting at LT we pick someone who's going to be an impact player behind them. Let's get our weapons set for the next 6 years in this draft. The key? Mendenhall. Then we have a QB, RB, WR, and tight end that we can support with other players.
Just my thoughts though. I know everyone has their own opinion.

Hater,
My thoughts EXACTLY!!!!
Mendenhall will be EXCELLENT for the Broncos.... one of the best RB that has come out in the last 4 - 5 drafts that fits into what Denver does (with Peterson and Jackson).
I think our O Line will be good and will get better. Our recieving corps is good. I think D Jack is going to be really good for us. His interview on sirius radio he sounded excited, determined and wnating to reward Denver for trading for him and wants to be here for more than a year.
If we can pick up a Trevor Laws at DT and get Robertson from the Jets I will be happy. I dont think LB is a need this year, especially with the LB crop comign out next year in the draft with Cushing, Malauaga and Larentatitus (probably butchered that spelling!) and I have faith in our new LB's anyway.
I like that we may go potent offense. It will also help our D Line too and make other teams play catch up. To play catch up they will have to throw, which means taking on Bly and Bailey....they are pretty good corner backs apparently.
I really hope we get Mendenhall!
Great thread Hater!!!

I agree completely RAID, couldn't have said it better myself..
How about these skill position players.. Cutler, Mendenhall, Marshall and Scheffler..
As long as they can stay healthy, that is a heck of an offense.. And with Graham as a blocker, and our backups at RB, all we need is a true #2 WR and a LT and our O is good to go for the next few years..
We can always take a flier on a Tackle towards the end of the draft who can start in a couple years, and if we take a WR in the 2nd or 3rd (i know we don't have one now but could w/ a trade up or down) this year they can provide depth and next year could move up the chart because Jackson and Parker are only on 1 year deals.. which think makes it more likely we draft a WR, they never are productive their first year, so they wouldn't be under any pressure to play and produce right away (except as a KR maybe)..
So if we got our Franchise RB, and a #2 WR for the future our O will be set.. Get a DT in the second round this year and trade a late pick for Robertson and our team suddenly goes from having a lot of holes and 7-8 wins to 9-10 and a possible wild card birth..

Great posts everyone,
I love this idea as well, if we get Mendenhall then we will have a great offense for years to come. I know we might have to address the Line but we always to amazing with later round O-line picks, Example Nalen/Lepsis. Mendenhall will fit beautifully in our zone blocking scheme. Also again i love the thought of getting Laws in the second round 120something tackles at the DT spot. WOW. Then day one will make me a happy man.
Also i am really high on Ryan Harris i love this kid, and i really do think that the o-line will do well.

Hate to spoil the party here guys, but how do you know Mendenhall is a sure fire stud? Didn't he have only 1 good year in college? That scares me a little, not to mention that we need help on both lines and IMO blocking has alot more to do with success in the run game than the back does. Should be interesting on Saturday, I'm sticking with my Chris Williams pick.

Hey broncos4 ever,
Well, the whole draft is prognostication. Whats to guarentee Chris Williams will be any good? Or he will be better than Ryan Harrie etc. etc
I am a supporter for taking Mendenhall, BUT, if we take him I would LOVE to see us take Owen SChmitt from West Virginia at FB as a blocker for him as well.
Mendenhall by all accounts is a good blocker, and Schmitt is a man mountain. I think by getting Schmitt we would help the o line as well.
I think there is some good OT prospects down in rounds 2 -4, where we should definitely get some depth for the O Line.
if we get Mendenhall, PLEASE take Schmitt as well!

mendenhall is the pick we should take , we can find OL or DL in later rounds we need a running look at the Chargers they have a good running back and they are the best team in the west. great back win a lot of gams because team cann't foucs on one part of our off.

if it ain't broke, don't fix it. The Broncos have gotten SEVERAL HOF linemen in the later rounds of the draft, and a lot of very good, quality starters down there. It's about who fits the Broncos scheme, not who's the biggest and strongest and the best college player. The Broncos can get a guy that would be just as valuable to them on the O-line in the later rounds. They've been doing it forever, and the one time they tried to take an O-lineman in the 1st round, it failed. The Broncos hopefully won't be drafting this high again, and they need to use it on a guy that's going to be an IMPACT player.
I agree 100%. I think Mendenhall is the guy. I was a Jon Stewart fan, but since the injury, I'd rather have Mendenhall. I think they both will be great RB's, and I think if we could get either of these guys, it would take our offense to a completely different level. I still think we need O-line help, but the 2nd round, at the VERY highest, is where we should look for it. But I would prefer taking a DT in the 2nd.
In the 1st round, you draft the best talent. After that, you draft for need IMO

I know this will sound idiotic but could someone tell me exactly what our scheme is? I may be too young to have picked up on it or maybe im just stupid, it just seems everyone is saying "Oh he is good for our scheme" but what does that really mean.....
