Just another story about the wonderful legacy Kelvin Sampson left at Indiana.  It is unfortunate that Tom Crean needs to deal with a very serious academic issue this early in his tenure at IU.  However, this is part of cleaning up the basketball program and returning it to prominence.

Does anyone really believe this is a recently discovered problem at IU or something the university knew to be a problem for some time?  Someone, please tell me again why Rick Greenspan still has a job at this university.  There needs to be more accountability for the state of this basketball program.  He needs to go!

They fired a coaching legend who  recruited and graduated more players then most in his field, great move I U. What Indiana should do is hire Knight as the AD and watch how the house cleaning ought to be done, the college game has become nothing more then a triple A league for the NBA. I wish they would bring back the no draft rule until your class graduates, that may keep most of these kids who have no business of being in a institution of higher learning then I do of being the President of the United States.

Damn man, what else is going to be coming out about Sampson?  I can't believe that no one else at IU knew anything about grades.  Greenspan needs to go fast and the university president needs to follow him out the door.  I have had enough already and were still 9 months from next season.  Go IU, Go Crean  I like the fact he wants to go old school, if you can't make the grades don't even bother coming to IU.

It's very unfortunate that an academic institution of IU's caliber is having its reputation tarnished by the hiring of someone who was known to be trouble at his previous position.  It's even more disappointing in light of the fact that historically Indiana graduated nearly all of its players within five years, thanks in no small part to Knight.  The article does, however, underscore that in Tom Crean IU definitely got the right man for the job.  Not only is he a tremendous coach, he's an even better person who has his priorities in order and will hold every player to the highest standard both academically and in the area of personal conduct.  It may take two or three years, but IU basketball will be back in business with Tom Crean at the helm.  I also wonder why Greenspan still has his job.  I enjoyed all three previous posts.

Indiana has a great tradition academically and it is unfortunate that the basketball program is tarnishing it.  They never should have let Bob Knight go and for the record I'm glad he choked Neil Reed.  He was the biggest baby to watch.  Thanks Bobby!

The blame for this should go to the student-athletes academic advisor.  It is the AA's responsibilty to ensure that the student-athlete is making progress toward a degree.  The coach should not be involved.  I agree the Athletic Department should be kept informed of any potential problems by the academic advisor.  They are having a lot of problems at I.U.
which once had such a good reputation.

I don't care if they go 5-25 next year.  I just want the house cleaned... er Creaned.  I'm liking what I'm hearing from the man.  This ship won't get righted for at least 3 years.

Sampson got $750K for leaving it in shambles.  Nice parachute for a greaseball.

I was shocked when Kelvin Sampson was hired by Indiana. Even more shocked than when he won Coach of the Year. His reputation for horrible academics was quite well known before the hire. Bpb Knight became a liability, but could his departure have been handled more poorly? All this points to the AD - he must go.

Tom Crean is a near perfect fit for Indiana and will take the program back to prominence. Be patient. He clearly has a ton of work to do.
