What a bunch of classless chumps. You know, Philly gets a lot of crap for having idiot fans, but Cap fans really took the cake last night. After the Flyers hard-fought victory, beer cups, pizza boxes, hats, and other foriegn objects littered the ice (some landing on the players).
I feel bad for Capitals players. Not only are a good percentage of their fans fair weather, but they act like a disgrace when their overachieving team finally bows out.
agreed, that was classless, but as much as i want to agree with you, we easily could have done the same thing. the only difference is no one will call Flyers fans fairweather fans. but as much as i want to agree with you, i do believe flyers fans may have done the same thing.
Yes, I saw the 2nd goal. I also watched the entire series...including all the BS calls for Washington in games 5 and 6 (that got them back in the series). Get a clue??? So you condone the crap that took place by Capitals fans after the game?
That behavior makes me sick...It reeks of a bunch of drunken slobs with no respect for the game. And, you know what's funny...you'll never see Leonsis (the idiot ring leader)condemn that crap.
They should move that team out out of DC. It''s a souless pit of fairweather fans (save football).
DC is a football town 99.99%. Most of the city doesn't even know there is a hockey team in town.
Up until this April, the games were usually half-empty affairs unless the Pens, Flyers, or Ranger fans bought up tickets to those games.
Those fans in game 7 were probably attending their first Caps game in 10 years. They don't know how to properly behave during a hockey game series ender.
It is one of the most classy moments in all of sports that the core understands.
I actually feel bad for the 5000-8000 or so core Caps fans who actually went to games and supported this team beforehand.
Now, they get lumped alongside all the fair-weather April Caps fans who magically appeared in their red shirts overnight....and decided to chuck trash all over the ice because the team lost a tight series....
By your logic norm, why don't we just move the Pirates of out Pittsburgh? It's sad, at one point in time Pittsburgh was just as into the Pirates as they were the Steelers. Now, they average attendance below the Marlins for the worst in the NL. But if they started to compete again, PNC would sell out every game. In most towns in the U.S., sports will suffer if a team can't compete, the obvious exception to the rule is football though. And the Caps weren't competitive in a sport that very few people really care about south of Pennsylvania.
Hell, I remember talking to relatives I have in McKees Rocks about the Penguins as little as four years ago before Crosby and they struggled to name players. Now, they love the team and even attend games.
All of us are obviously big sports fans who will follow their team no matter how bad they are, otherwise we wouldn't be posting on a sports website. Just don't knock all of D.C. because of a few bad eggs that were frustrated after a depressing close to a great late season run. Does D.C. have a lot of fair weather fans, sure, but every town struggles to support a losing team (except for maybe football), even a great sports town like Pittsburgh.
hmm and Mike Richards blowing kisses to the caps fans? class act right there. at least in DC we dont need jail cells in our arenas to hold our fans when they get outta control. am i the only one who saw that? im not saying either side is at fault, just if youre gonna antagonize the home fans, be prepared for it
