I'm not sure who you're watching, but he's nothing like George Foster.  Foster was a right-handed power hitter without much speed from what I can recall.  Let's not compare Fred to anybody...let's just see how he develops.

Is there another George Foster? Fred Lewis sure doesn't look like the one that played on the Big Red Machine  teams. Actually, he reminds of Brett Butler, without the ability to steal bases. All of the Giants announcers have discussed the fact he isn't very good at learning to steal bases, has a hard time picking up pitchers' moves. So, my question is why don't they bat him in the #2 slot, behind Burris or Velez, both of whom do steal bases?

They bat him lead-off for a saimple reason, he gets on base much better than either velez or any other option they might have.  The guy is still young with respect to baseball savy, so things like his routs on fly balls and ability to steal bases/read pitchers should improve.  The only concern is he is already 27, so his physical skills are at their peak now.  But hopefully he develops some of the intuitive baseball skills a little more and can become a good player for the next 3-5 years.

Ah, just what I expected, I said George Foster in the making, take a look fellas at Foster when he began with the Giants, yes he batted right handed, but man could he drive the ball when his sweet swing met up with the ball, but my key point, the Giants gave up on him, fellas, and the rest is history, but I don't think were gonna repeat it, Lewis is here to stay and will only develop

Freddie Foster, I mean Lewis is ready for Cook, that's not to say Cook isn't good, he's better the that, but Freddie is coming into his own, he get better at fielding too

Philedelphia, is perfect for Freddie Foster, did you see that Barry Bonds drive he sent in the
ocean and telephone ballpark, that might be irritating for some of you, isn't it funny you can
dirive balls pretty far without steroids or maybe you think Freddie's visiting Barry's triainer in Singh, Singh, well irregardless fellas, just keep your eyes on the bal like Leghorn, Foghorn said to Sherman and you might be able to hear the old exclamation of Lon Simmons, tell it bye, bye Baby, or was that Russ Hodges ????

I hope that Freddie Foster does well in Pittsburgh but I noticed that the Pirates are sending three straight lefties at the Giants, so who knows?  Even if it's Ortmeier in left, here's hoping the Giant hitters get very strong in the Steel City.  Go Giants!

Three straight lefties in the starting rotation in Pittsburgh!  You won't see that in many other pitching rotations in the majors.  Regardless, Freddie is going to have to hit the lefties better.  The Giants need his bat.  Although Ortmeier did okay.  He needs to learn about baserunning and not getting picked off first.

I don't know if Lewis will ever pick up that skill. Let's remember the guy's 27, or several years older than some established players like the Mets' Wright and Reyes. But at least the young guys are being given their chances.

Thoughts on Manny Burress? He's been hitting, and seems solid on D, for a guy who made the leap several levels.
