The Official 2008 Carolina Panthers Draft Thread!

danman012...an early start huh? I thought kaaduge would be working on this! Anyway, nice thread. I still stick to my guns that the Panthers make a play for Matt Ryan with the 5th ( trade with the Chiefs) or the 7th ( trade with the Patriots). I hope I am wrong, but I still think that is their play! I wouldn't be to hard on them if that was the deal though. Only because the Panthers have earned my trust in picking 1st rounders!

The've earned my trust as well, and I did get a real early start I'm gettin real ancy about this up coming draft I think this is a make or break year for the Panthers some guys could start wanting out if we don't start winning and it's important for the Panthers that this draft goes well for us.

The only make or break players this year is Julius Peppers, and the staff is Fox and Hurney. People who aren't fans will say its Jake, but we as fans know better.

I would like us to grab Clady if he is still there at the 13th pick and if not then go Derrick Harvey.  I still think that DT and S are bigger concerns than DE, since we have McClover, Johnson, and Brayton all seemingly playing for one spot opposite Peppers.  I would love to see us grab DaJuan Morgan from State in the 3rd round with one of our picks as well as Forte or Smith at RB in the 3rd round as well.

I'd like to mention the effects of the Jake Long signing by the Dolphins and the two big trades in the last two days; namely Jared Allen going from the Chiefs to the Vikings and Dewayne Robertson going from the Jets to the Broncos. These moves will actually affect the Panthers pick @ #13.

The Chris Long signing may start the run on OT's early - which sucks for the Panthers chances at getting Ryan Clady.

The Chiefs picking up the Vikings #17 first round pick gives them tremendous leverage in the first day. They have many options to trade down, but I think they'll stand pat and get an OT and a DE with those two picks ( They desperately need both now ). Granted, only the #5 pick is previous to the Cats' - but it could be either Clady or DE's Vernon Gholston or Chris Long = which again may diminish the hope of Derrick Harvey being there at #13.

The Broncos are the team to get nervous about - they pick right before us, and also need help at OT and DE. This Robertson signing fills an immediate need for them @ DT , which gives them freedom to draft one of the above positions. Again - this sucks for the Panthers.

I'm really interested to see if the Rams take DT Glenn Dorsey - because the Falcons were ga-ga over him and will put them on the spot = whether or not to take QB Matt Ryan. Mlf - what's the Georgia Peach Rumour Mill saying about this ? 

Should be a helluva fun day Saturday - I've already turned down two draft party invitations to chat with you clowns. Might not be able to type too well after the first round though, I wonder why the 3:00 P.M. start time ?

     Since this is the official draft thread I will have to put my 2 cents in,LOL. If the Panthers do trade up I will have to agree with MLF that it will be for a QB(Ryan)  whom I will go on record as saying that in my opinion would be a bad move considering that the man in his senior year threw 19 ints against slower and dumber college students which will not translate into good numbers against faster and smarter NFL players. I would however love to see a trade up that would not cost us  much so we could draft Sedric Ellis. If there is no trade up I see us taking a OL preferably Brendan Alberts.

      I think if we do not trade up earlier in 1st rd then we do it with our 2nd rd pick to get a late 1st rd pick and snag Kenny Phillips. There are 3 to 4 teams looking to do this that have late 1st rd picks. I think this could be strong possibity as we would then fill two positional needs with quality players.

    I am really looking forward to this draft not only for what the Panthers do and it better be good but with all the scenarios and rumors of teams wanting to do this and do that will make for a interesting draft day instead of the boring ones in the last couple of years.where nobody does much of anything. Let the madness begin.

Best available to plug holes 4-7
