I know he will be the most expensive short reliever in history, but he needs it for confidence and I mean short relief, it'll keep him from the first three inning of which he has been a disaster.

understand your frustration but who can start in his place? And how confident would Bochy be bringing him into a situation where he would have to throw strikes?
As much as it pains me to say it, he is in the rotation for the long haul. Unless he gets close to 20 losses then he will come down with a mysterious oblique injury or maybe nintendo thumb (RIP Chris Brown, but that was by far the most entertaining injury since well the sprained eye lid!).

Lowry when he comes off the DL in the next couple of weeks. That would be the best option especially with the way Cain, Lincecum and Sanchez are pitching the Giants would also have Correia and then Lowry as their four and five starters giving way to send Zito to the Pen. Which is where he belongs anyways.

Not without taking a huge hit to the salary cap. Unfortunately, we HAVE to pay him his money. That's why it's so ridiculous that they paid the amount we did to him in the first place. In the NFL, we could've just dumped Zito out on the street at this point and wouldn't have to pay him much. We're stuck more or less. They could buy him out, but the organization is way too proud to admit to that large of a blunder.

Zito is definitely a big weight around the Giants neck. No one would trade for him. No one would just take him off the Giants hands. I read in the paper this morning that Bochy is considering the bullpen. That's probably the only move they can make right now, but again, I think they are limited even there. Wouldn't his only use be for mop-up? I wouldn't trust bringing Zito in a close game.
What a huge disappointment. Perhaps send him to the bullpen, BUT, use him as the bullpen catcher? :) Seriously though, Misch looked pretty good yesterday, but my choice, at least to give him a shot for right now, is Merkin Valdez.

Barry Zito, a $126 million mop-up reliever?
That's what the Giants are contemplating for their troubled "ace," their Opening Day starter who hasn't won a game in six outings. In fact, he's the third pitcher since 1956 to go 0-6 before May 1, the others being Dave Stewart with Texas in 1984 and Mike Maroth with Detroit in 2003.
In his latest botched start, Zito got yanked after allowing eight runs in three innings, failing once again to keep the Giants close. It was his shortest outing of the year, and he was booed by the San Francisco fans.
"We can't keep doing what we're doing," manager Bruce Bochy said. "We have to get this guy right."
Bochy said one option is removing Zito from the rotation and making him a reliever, hoping he'd get his groove back in less-pressured situations. As a starter, his ERA is 7.81. Throughout his big-league career, he never missed a start, but durability matters little if the success rate is zero.
The Giants could replace Zito in the rotation with lefty Pat Misch, who was called up from Class AAA Fresno on Sunday and pitched the final six innings. Misch was promoted to take the roster spot of Kevin Correia, who was placed on the disabled list with a strained side.
The Giants don't need a fifth starter until May 10, thanks to a couple of days off coming up.

It looks like it'll be a reality soon.. finally.

We have to do what the Pirates did with Matt Morris, release him. Morris was only 0-4. I know it's not a sound financial decision, but it's a sound baseball decision.

Well, the Giants have to at least hang on to Zito until one of two things happens: his velocity returns (such as it was), or they find an injury. Not much choice in the matter.
They look bad now, but paying him about $100 million while risking that he wins games for free for another team is just not an option.
Incidentally, why in the world did the Pirates trade Rajai Davis for Morris (clearly finished) and his $10M contract, anyway? Awful.
Funny how we fans can see these things coming a mile away!

I hate to bring this up especially after Barry Bonds, but has anyone out there has talked about the reason why Zito is doing so well is perhaps because he was juicing before and now with testing and that he's off the juice, Zito is now showing us his "true" abilities.
I mean Zito is still young (under 30) but his fastball has dropped from the high 80s to the low 80s. He did play for the A's and we all know there were plenty of people on roids there and it's not to far of a streach that he might have experiement with roids while playing on the A's. I know people are saying it's a head thing or a mechanical thing, but he lost a lot of velocity and it might very well be he's no longer on steroids thing.

Barry Zito is going to shine out of the bullpen in hopes to regain his starter job, I believe this shouldn't be in a long time coming, John Smoltz never lost any of his heat and he ate up other teams out of the bullpen, that still will be Barry Zito facing them 2/3 of the game along,
to kill a rally, to slow the tempo, whatever, Barry can and will meet the challenge, but it has to be short, we have other relievers to take over, manmlife is good in SF these daysor rather being a SF Fan

Well I for 1 am willing to give it a try. I dont want us to just give up on the guy, mostly because it would be to expensive of a mistake but also because i think he can get it back. We were asking him to be something that he is not (our ace). Lets get his confidence back in his pitch's and get his location on point and pencil him in at third in the rotation behind Cain and Lincecum.
