I know it's still early and that some of his outings were rusty, but tonight's blown save was the third consecutive shaky outing for Takashi Saito. I'm just wondering if you guys think that he might be over the hill. The Dodgers have a perfectly able replacement in Jonathan Broxton, and they have plenty of arms to adjust to the change. Is Saito done?

I think he still has some gas in the tank.  He did not get much work during spring training due to an injury and has not had to many chances to pitch this season due to the bad start by the Dodgers.  Give him a few more shots if he still struggles then make a move.

In general, the Dodgers had the goofiest spring training regimen in all of baseball. I don't know what the story is with Saito, but based on what he's done for the team I'm not willing to declare him toast on the basis of a passed ball by the second string catcher.

he's 38 so i this might be the end of the road, he's a great closer, I love him but we're not pulling a Hoffman on him and keeping him as closer just because he's been a staple for us in the past, were not gonna be like the Padres and live in the past, there's still hope for this year for Saito but I expect Brox to be shutting the door in 2009.

Plus Torre is trying to make him like Rivera and use him for 2 innings.  Let Brox take the eighth and Saito finish off the game.

Keep the roles the same. Its no as if Brox is going 1-2-3 everytime. What we need is for are staarting pitching to go deeper nto the game

No, Saito is far from done.  He was injured in spring and didn't get a lot of work in.  You don't just start off at an All-Star level, you work up to it.  Give him another few weeks to get going then we can re-visit this idea.  And I doubt anyone will be talking about Saito as washed up.
