What did you think of the decision to trade down?  Should we have taken Mendenhall at 18, or did they do the right thing in trading down taking Brown and getting a few extra picks?

First, what's up guys?  I've been gone a while.  It's the travel season with my job so I haven't had much time to post lately.  Good to see the regulars still hangin around the boards!

I think this was the right move.  We have a decent stable of backs at the moment.  Had we taken Mendenhall who knows if he would pan out or not.  I like the upside that Chris Taylor has.  Do believe much in the Chris Brown move but hey, it's not my call.  Who knows?

It was interesting from a fantasy prospective to see the Steelers take Mendenhall.  What's that about?  Concerns about Willie Parkers health?  hmmm....

I'm glad that they went after an OT, good to see them really addressing actual needs for a change.  This was a line heavy draft this year.  It was strange to see so many lineman going in the first round.  Really, quite interesting.

All in all I think it was a decent draft with no real "What?!? What the hell was THAT?" kind of moves.  Always makes me gag to see Casserly up there on NFL network giving his draft advice.....@ss.

I am going to give what might appear to be a homer response.

If it is a Kubiak move then it was the right move. I have watched Kubiaks draft choices and decisions be questioned and ridiculed by the Mel Kippers of the world only for him to prove them wrong.

Is there such a thing among Texans fans?

I too agree that Kubiak makes better choices than our previous management staff.  It's not just him though making the decisions.  I'm still trying to get a handle on Rick Smith and how he's doing.  So far it looks like they are doing a fine job.

I wonder if the decision to pass on mendenhall and trade down was part and parcel to the Denver train of thought which is any back can be a 1000 yard back in the right system.  Perhaps Kubiak doesn't value a RB as much as other teams might.  Not that it's a bad thing, it certainly has worked in Denver.  OR they were dead set on drafting a 1st round OL and when all the top prospects were taken by 18 they decided to trade down to get Brown and the extra picks (which we gave away for Matt Schaub, if I remember correctly.)  Not a bad move, we need the help on the O-line.  Besides I'm not sold that Mendenhall is any better than what we already have.  I think we have yet to see Chris Taylor's full potential.

Draft weekend always does this to me.  I'm all stoked now for the season to get rolling.  I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas.  It just can't come fast enough.

I am homer. I have been a Texans fan before the Texans even exhisted. I WAS a die-hard Oiler fan. When they left my loyalties just couldnt go with them. Even though now I live in their new city. talk about irony.

I agree Kubiak doesnt value the RB as much. He comes from the Shannahan school and they have shown the ability to take a 5th rounder and turn him into a 2ooo yard rusher.

And yes, we gave away our 2nd pick this year and swapped our 8th overall last year for Atlanta's 10th overall for Schaub. Which to me translates to giving up a 2nd round pick for Schaub. Very good move on Smiths part.

I dont think they where dead set on an OL for the first round. I think the Texans O-line is underated. I believe Carr made them look worse then they where and they have had to endure alot of injuries over the last years. But being a homer, I wont question the pick. If Kub says he is our man then I have nothing but confidence he will prove to be a great pick.

I too am ready for some football.

I'm right there with ya, bud.  I was a die hard Oilers fan then Adams had to go and move the team.  I couldn't root for them after that.  I felt betrayed.  Poetic justice, them losing the superbowl by one yard to the Rams, oh that felt good.  Now I'm a die hard Texans fan.

Love ya Blue is dead to me.
