Brennan against Washington: 42 out of 50 for 442 yard with 5 TDs and no ints. I don't care a what level you are playing, those are difficult stats to put up. He did that fairly regularly. The game before was not as good. He played Boise St. and went 40 out of 53 for 495 yards, 5 TDs, 2 ints, and he also ran for one TD. This guy could be a real 6th round steal. I wanted the Cowboys to get him for a back-up. Nice pick skins.
You know nothing about football if you think this was a good pick.
Colt Brennan played in perhaps the weakest conference in all of football.
He played one game against an NFL like defense, and as good as Georgia's defense was it's not anything close to what he'll see against a real NFL defense and he fell apart. He couldn't make a quick decision to save his life and was sacked 8 times and on top of that he threw 3 INTS.
I have to disagree, as much as this confuses me ( i feel that we had other more pressing needs to address) Colt has everything he needs to be a great QB.
He has shown that he has the physical ability, yes he may have played in the weakest conference, but how come we dont see a QB put up numbers like his in that same league? He obviously has extraordinary abilities which he has shown.
The fact that he play ONE NFL like defense in his career and failed against it doesnt worry me in the slightest. It clear that Hawaii does not prepare for that style defense. This is something Colt CAN BE TAUGHT!. Physical ability CANNOT be taught.
But as I said, this pick confuses me because I firmly believe that Campbell shows promise, and I'd like to get out what we paid for him
LOL, there is no "NFL like defense" in college. Players are slower, and most are just awful. College is about who can score the most points.. Defense is the second primary.
Only rarely do you get studs who play defense, and even then. They can play offense too in college.
Have you never heard of Timmy Chang, the guy who was the QB at Hawaii right before Colt, and who put up a bunch of gaudy college numbers. You know where he is now either the AFL or the CFL, I don't even know which one, hell he might be flipping burgers but he surely isn't putting up big numbers in the NFL.
And what physical ability, he's listed at 6-3 but he has a funny side arm motion so he balls come out like they were thrown by a 5'11 guy and his arm isn't very strong and reports are he's put on 30 pounds since the end of the offseason and I'm not talking 30 pounds of muscle, he put on 30 pounds of fat. Why would you want this guy on the team?
He's horrible.
This board is filled with a much homers who will make excuse after excuse for poor choices, why are you people so blind to how poorly this team is being run.
thatlsk, I typically agree with you but you are putting way too much stock into this pick. Brennan is brought in as a third string receiver. He is very mobile and very accurate. Chang didn't put up the completion percentage numbers that Colt did. I understand the conference he played in. However, we drafted him in the sixth round. This was a guy that many people believed could have gone higher. This is a quality pick for a need that we needed filled. If we had waited anymore, we would have been stuck with a real bum.
It is so hard to tell how these quaterbacks will pan out. I have my doubts about Brennan but as long as you are bringing up names how about Steve McNair. He threw the ball a ton in college at Alcorn St., if I am not mistaken, and he ended up being a pretty good quaterback in the NFL.
the way i see it. he has time to learn. the dude knows how to win. watch some tape, its where he puts the ball, almost every clip he is bombing down the field. also take in consideration, who else on his team even got drafted? where are his franchise left tackles? or 2nd round recievers?
look at michigan. all the weapons henne had yet they could'nt even win against applachain state.
he's a leader. i heard comparison to joe montana. some experts are liking this pick to pan out under jim zorn, like i said he has plenty of time to learn.
we needed a third string qb and I think we did just fine........and yeah this board is a homer board, its the redskin message board .....go figure....da...go root for someone else!
Why do people always compare Colt to Timmy Chang? If you watch the both of them their entire career like myself, there is no comparison! Everyone talks about the Georgia game; however, if you had 1 second to throw the ball no one could have a good game. Give him a chance. That is all he is asking for.
The stats don't really stand out to me, and I don't think they are all that important. What counts is that he has experience in a West Coast style pass-first offense, that he is accurate, and that he was a great value pick in Round 6. I don't think the Redskins want to have him start anytime soon, rather he is there to learn the system and to provide a solid backup option once Todd Collins retires.
Alot of the people on here actually know what they are talking about.. Colt isn't going to walk in and play like Manning, but he is giong to play games in the NFL.. Zorn is already talking him up about his accuracy. He threw for 70%+
I don't care who you play for, but if it's Div3 College football, that's pretty impressive. I'm not jumping on the Colt bandwagon, but I do think he has some talent.
BTW, the way teh WR releases means nothing.. Rivers is productive and has a sidearm, if not worse release the Brennan..
Once again, no defense in college can compare to an NFL D... You could of put the worse defense in the NFL against the 2004-2005 Trojan offense, and they wouldn't even score.
The anger brought out by a disgruntled Redskins fan is silly, it was a 6th round pick, meaning this is the round to reach out for a guy who COULD do something. Brennan MAY be the 3rd string QB, who knows, there is talk in DC of him being part of a developemental squad.
He has been lambasted for one bad game against the Bulldogs, something that could be said about with 40 other QBs playing in the NFL right now. Brunell is gone, someone else needs to hold the clipboard, I would rather have a 6th rounder do it rather than a millionaire.
Interesting Henne is gtg and he had the #1 pick in the draft protecting him and still lost to a Div 1-AA team while Brennan with inferior linemates and an offense that ran the ball 3 times a game never lost to a Div 1-AA team in 07.
Brennan: If you had watched them last year compared to 06, his OL was horrid last year versus 06. Considering he was looked at as a Top 20 pick before last season, this is a gift. As far as concerns with Campbell, there is nothing to worry about for a year or two, if anything this is healthy competition IF Brennan is what he may think he is cracked up to be.
Now fellows when we see him in preseason he will more then likely be playing against 3rd string. So lets not go overboard and start chanting for him to start over Campbell if he looks great. He is a project and is 3-4 years before he would be fit for the NFL.
