GeronimosSon...it doesn't happen often...As a matter of fact, if I had to bet on the following three: Whether I would die in an earthquake in Illinois, be struck by lightening, or someday, that I might actually agree with you, I probably would have choosen the earthquake....However I am willing to put all things aside. Today is a new day and believe it or not, I completely agree with you for a change! What say you? LOL! ! ! Hafner needs something...Don't know what...but whatever he is doing is sure as hell not working!
For the rest of you...I haven't heard one of you say that Eric Wedge needs to go? I guess I have to ask you why? Isn't it Eric's job to take over if his hitting coach isn't getting the job done? I mean, who makes the lineup? Who request that certain ball players get called up? Shapiro might help in the decision, but in the end, Eric is suppose to know what he needs up here to remain competitve and who are who is not playing up to par, right? In the end, isn't it Eric's fault for wins and losses?
When Shapiro and Wedge started molding this team for the future (probably starting around 2002 or so), this team has completely lacked consistency . Be honest, every year the Tribe has had a problem in one specific area. The hitting and the pitching (whether its starting or relief) never seem to click at the same time. One year it was the bullpen. Then the Indians started off the season not hitting at all. They fired the hitting coach, began to hit, and then the starting pitching wasn't there (aka remember Jason Johnson). Then the starting pitching started coming together and the relief pitching (AKA no more Wickman, hello Fausto Carmona as your closer). Then your starting rotation and bullpen probably become ranked as the top two in the game and guess what....we can't hit again. Lets be honest, it has been inconsistency that has cost this team one playoff year (2005), one World Series opportunity (2007) and it is going to cost this team another playoff year if something isn't done quickly in (2008).
Part of me continues to think that it is the pocketbook of Mr. Dolan that keeps us from winning it all because he won't shell out the money for a caliber player better than a Dellucci, Blake, Michaels, etc.. He has Shapiro sign this young talent at a cheap price (which is smart but risky) for years in hopes to remain competitive. He knows that enough fans will come and watch this team, hence making him profit. However he won't go the extra distance to win the whole thing. I understand that spending more money doesn't equal a championship, but I also know that putting the guys that are out there doesn't either. Regardless, the fall guy here is Wedge. He is expected to win with the talent he has been provided with and he hasn't. Fire him and lets see if someone else can do better.
