This is a comparison between Philip Rivers and Tom Brady in the Post Season versus each others teams (Patriots vs. Chargers). There are 2 games that took place. One in the 2006 Post Season (Patriots 24 Chargers 21) and one in the 2007 Post Season (Patriots 21 Chargers 12).

Here they are:

Tom Brady vs. San Diego Chargers in Playoff Game(s)
----------------------------------
2006 - 27 of 51 280yds, 2 TDs, 3 INTs
QB Rating - 57.6

2007
- 22 of 33 209yds, 2 TDs, 3 INTs
QB Rating - 66.4

Philip Rivers vs. New England Patriots in Playoff Game(s)
-----------------------------------
2006 - 14 of 32 232yds, 0 TDs, 1 INT, 1 Fumble
QB Rating - 55.5

2007 - 19 of 37 211yds, 0 TDs, 2 INTs
QB Rating - 46.1

I wrote this to the dismay of a fellow Charger fan blaming Philip Rivers for the losses in the Post Season. Citing poor performance from the leader, the Quarterback, as the culprit, and eventually the downfall of the Chargers. Stating that a QB with stats like that in the Playoffs has no chance to win the game.

Brady is a proven QB, he has a team to back him, he has rings to show for it. But this is what happens to a Great QB like Brady and a Good QB like Rivers in a high stakes game in the Playoffs. The Chargers made the Most Talented QB in the league have an average QB rating in the Post Season vs. Chargers of: 62
And the Patriots made a QB that would be Considered Above Average to have an average QB rating in the Post Season vs. Patriots of: 50.8

A Quarterback can only do so much against a great team!

The Chargers went against a seasoned Patriot team (both times)that has been to "the Game" many times before. The QB is the most critical part of the team, but its still a team effort. The QB can't run, sack, jump, strip, push, cut, intercept, fake, kick, block, pull, drag, chase, coach, call plays, take a hit over and over by themselves! They need their teammates!

For this being Philip Rivers 2nd year as a starter (entering 3rd), a 25-7 Record (3-2 Post Season) second-most in NFL behind Peyton Manning, 15-1 record at home and two straight Division Championships. I would have to say things are looking up for the Chargers.

If you don't like your QB... Find another team!

Once again, Bolted4Life comes through with the strong post...stats are stats and facts are facts.  Philip Rivers IS the man under center for years to come, and he WILL guide us to the promised land.  And yes, LT, Lights Out et al will add their leadership and ability to the mix, but more times than not the QB is held responsible.  This kid's been a winner everywhere he's been, and he'll come through for our Chargers, too.  As the man said:

Great job. I'm scratching my head tho trying to figure out exactly when Philip Rivers got that 3rd playoff win for my Chargers? AND how many playoff wins does the Patriots Tom Brady have? I don't know who has more Peyton or Tom?

Not to worry, GO CHARGERS...

lol. Won 2 of 3 playoff appearances (or 2-1). I was bound to mess up somewhere.

Post Season Appearances including Superbowl(s):

Tom Brady Post Season - 14-2 (Won 3 out of 4 Superbowl Appearances)

Peyton Manning Post Season - 6-7 (Won 1 Superbowl)

(Its difficult to dig up terrible stat trends on popular Sports stars, they might be a game off but otherwise accurate)

Actually...I think Philip Rivers playoff records are:

0-1 in 2006 lost to Patriots

2-1 in 2007 beat Titans and Colts, then lost to Patriots

2-2 overall.

Still as you say a fairly good run for a 2nd year starter. AND his regular season record is right up there. I'd say the Chargers are in good hands for a few years.

DAMN! I was juggling too many numbers in my head at the time.

I was watching "Costas Now" on HBO and it dawned on my that the numbers were wrong again so I jumped on the computer to adjust! But Boltnut47 already set it straight.

I stand corrected again. 2-2 (2 wins in 4 games)

(That 06 season was hard on me.  I must of blocked it out. j/k)
