I consider myself an antitheist which is different than just your garden variety atheist. I believe in shining light on all of the lies that were pounded into the heads of children before they had the sense to question authority. I consider religion a form of mental child abuse and its time for it to stop. The day religion is gone for good, I will do a goat-dance.Odd.. last time I checked many 'grown' Atheists convert to Christianity as well. Many of those Atheists are scientists who set were perfectly capable of forming their own educated opinions without any 'mental child abuse'. Glad to see you have all the answers though and are so much more intelligent than those scientists as well as the 85% of the country. I suppose you believe the exact answer to 15/3 is 5 as well hmm?
You should try and listen to Cowboyhat3r.... you may learn something worthwhile...

In God we trust, while being silly to have on our money, doesn't really bother me too much.

The real screwjob is in the holidays. Every screwball religion (and there are a lot of them) has holidays. If you look at a calendar that had all religious holidays listed (Jewish/Hindu/Islam etc...) there are god mandated days off all over the place.

But the atheist holiday????????

Where's my freakin day off??

I vote that all atheists be allowed the same number of days off that your average (Christian/Jew/Hindu/Muslim) get.

Please make my holy day the Monday after the SuperBowl.

Let me clarify that...it isn't usually a paid day off type holiday...more like an Arbor Day type of holiday.

But it is there.

You'll have to be a little more specific, my calendar is in Japanese, and doesn't even have Easter.

The greatness that is the US has proved itself throughout the last 200+ years. It is good to be proud of it and to come together in support of it.
I kind of question really the validity of the greatness of the US, while it is in turn "modern" much of the greatness lies in theories of Roman, Egyptian and Asian (yes due to time) civilization but have made it a "American" way of life.   Democracy, while we call it American was founded in the political philosophy.  While you say greatness ... we are just borrowing and building from what was already a construct invented by the Greeks centuries ago.  What  America's greatness as compared to those civilizations (improved or not) is trivial in comparison.

AND of course its moral relativism ... to say one is better than the other ... one can either challenge (as you say) and get a result of superiority with a possible reality check of inferiority, or the other is to accept and walk away knowing and understanding, not necessarily approving, is the other choice.  The 1st choice was the catalyst for wars, much like a monkey beating on his chest to prove his superiority, I chose to evolve from that.  While we don't speak of it, if we were so superior as a nation, shouldn't Vietnam be a afterthought instead of a "don't talk about it" war?

Whose to say we are needed in the middle east and "save" the people by implementing our policies of democracy?  If they didn't have oil to begin with, would we be there anyways, I digress. Is it worth to take our "greatness" on a world wide superiority tour at the expense of our soldiers and family to defend "democracy" to a nation that didn't need it to begin with.  Would your ego rather see men & women in the American military die for your principles if in all do honesty if their people saw fit for them to die due beliefs, yes "let them destroy themselves and not get involved, whose to say thats right or wrong but we're not involved".  There are some cannibals in South America destroying themselves why are we not involved if we are the "Super Power" or are we as a nation now picking and choosing ... so then I ask are you more of a Elitist or just "selective" on your diversity?

Funny how you can say unite in hope to defeat, or even keep the bay the cultures that would destroy our liberties - wasn't one of those cultures presumed to be Jewish years ago to be defeated to keep liberties in Germany?  Solomon - lesson should be learned, intelligence and technology are the weapons of today, not brawn or numbers of people joining the cause for "ultimate superiority"

More specific? April 1.

At least that's what the Bible says. (See Psalm 14 or 53)

Yes, I say this tongue-in-cheek. It is hard to have a holiday (word origin -- English for "holy day") when you don't believe in the holy.
