A government without religion would have no morals.   Where do morals come from?

Do you really think that women are a minority? - brdsFEARromo

I don't think that women are a minority, but no one can argue with me that they were treated that way until the league of women voters was established in the 1920's.  Black men were given the ability to vote before women of any color were (I am not condoning that it took as long as it did for either in this statement it is just a matter of fact).

True, but the concept in his time was sticking very true to the wording of the 1st Amendment in that no laws could be made enforcing religious practice

My reference to Separation of Church and State was meaning that the phrase was not used in legal instances until 1874 with the Supreme Court decision.

I personnally believe that we have taken the wall of separation a bit too far in not allowing a person in public office to often even state that they have religious beliefs.  This was not what Jefferson was stating in 1802.  He addressed his own religious beliefs several times in various letters.

I think you can have morals DESPITE religion so based on what kind of religion, GOD can be a deity as opposed to just confined to a single religion like Christianity.

BUT with that, I know schools in Los Angeles country have given children permission to omit the line when saying the pledge or have given the option of not having them say the pledge all together.

I do believe in separation of church and state and with America honestly being more diverse with many cultures, what exactly are they pledging too now these days?  I always thought while even as a kid it was more going through the motions and what is being said was almost more like a lesson in speech than a devotion to a country, why do it at all?

"Separation of Church and State" is a myth. It never appears in our constitution.

The Constitution only prohibits the establishing of a "national church."

Leave it in. It is part of our History and should remain un-changed. This was not really even an issue until 911 happened. That is sad if you ask me. We get attacked and instead of standing together people started complaining about our way of life. I am still pissed at the fact that out Fire Trucks were told that they were not allowed to fly the US Flag on their trucks because people found it offensive.  What kind of crap is that.  If you don't like our Flag, our Currency our Pledge or our Country then pack your pansy a$$ up and get the hell out.  I'm not religious, but I have no problem saying the pledge.  Prayer should not be forced upon anyone.  The pledge does not force you to worship any god.  You are just saying your dues to this great country and its heritage.  It states 1 nation under god.  Not 1 nation under 1 God.  This god can be anyone or thing for that matter that you worship.  That's what's great about it.  It does not specify 1 god.
