Has your team ever considered trying to get Shawn Marion from the Heat? I figured the only real weakness on you teams starting 5 is Marvin Williams and Marion will be an instant upgrade over him. He has that option of opting out of his final year. What do you guys think??
Greek...I might be in the minority here..but I think our team really lacks a "true center". Horford is fantastic and rookie of the year no doubt; however, I think if he was moved to PF along with J-Smooth and a rebounding machine center was brought in...it would do wonders. BTW...I am not that high on Williams; however, if they let Josh Childress walk..I will scream to the top of my lungs! RESIGN CHILDRESS AND Josh Smith NOW Hawks!
The Hawks don't have enough money to sign Shaun Marion. The Hawks just need to focus on signing the two Joshes. After that, we could either trade for a pretty good center using draft picks and Marvin Williams. Or we could trade Marvin and next years 2nd or something for a top 20 or 15 pick there we could grab Roy Hibbert. The final thing we could do is release excess players such as Speedy Claxton who is making quite a bit of money. If we drop him I think we could free up some cap room. With the extra cap room, Jermaine O'Neal, Ron Artest (character issuses seem to be clearing up and he is a GREAT defender), Antwan Jamison, Elton Brand, or Emeka Okafor he is restricted but there is always hope. Antwan Jamison is my personal favorite.
With the addition of one of those 4 power forwards our line-up could go: PG- Bibby (Law) (West) SG-Johnson (Stoudamire) SF- Smith (Williams) (Richardson) PF- F.A. (Williams) C- Horford (Pachulia)
If we picked up Shaun Marion we could go: PG- Bibby (Law) SG- Johnson (Stoudamire) SF- Marion (Williams) (Richardson) PF- Smith (Williams) C- Horford (Pachulia)
If we picked up Marion we would be way too short of a team I would much rather pick-up one of the All-Star caliber P.F.s
im sorry but Jamison has stated he want to stay in D.C and im sure washington wants him there plus you dont have the money and team to lure him in he wants to win a championship the Haws are a few years away. Also i dont get why everyone hats a guy who's averaging 14 a night containing garnett and perkins and rebounding he can play the three or the four. If i were you i would go after Emaka Okufor wouldnt cost as much as the others and is exactly what you need a very good defender in the post that rebounds very well and can do the dirty work.
Marvin Williams doesn't gaurd KG, Josh Smith does. Marvin Williams has a nice shot, but he can't do anything other than that. He cant defend or get rebounds. I heard that if one of Washington's big 3 goes their is a chance they all go. I would be extremely happy if we could grab Emeka Okafor he is very good defensive player and rebounder. Another good pick up could be Brand or O'Neal because they both have carrers that are winding down, so the cap hit wouldn't be as big. They'd also be good pick ups b/c we need some veteran leadership.
Actually Marvin Williams does not have a nice mid range jumper not consistent anyway. The Celtics gave him that shot the entire series, left him wide open to double on JJ on Horford & he could not knock that shot down. His game is attacking the rim & grabbing boards for put backs. He was a awaste of a pick @ #2. Horford can play center, the game is not like it was in the 90's when you had 8-10 7 footers to bang, Players today tend to be athletic, lean, can run. Horford for a rookie played exceptional in the playoffs. I think we need to switch the offense we run & play to our strengh. Not a high low type offense with Horford at the top of the key & kicking it out to Bibby or JJ. Did Bibby look slow to you guys like he has lost a step?? I was please with the limited time Acie played too, can anyone tell me why Salim did not get off the bench at all????
Don't be fooled. This team has all kind of holes. It can't shoot. It doesn't defend. We have a terrible coach and a worse GM.
This team has been miscast from the beginning. The players for all their versatililty, don't do the things required of their positions. We have shooting guards that are too short to play (salim), point guards that aren't point guards (Law), shooting guards that are out of position (childress) and a point guard that doesn't make up for ignoring the point guard position for years (Bibby).
Everyone mentions that the team has gotten better every year, so therefore they are making progress, We keep drafing in the top five every year, so therefore you would think you would improve just from that. What did we improve from last year, 5 games? and we added Horford. Wow, great developing team.
Charlotte, the nice little expansion team just fired their coach, oh and wow, they finished only 5 games worse than the high flying, playoff making Atlanta Hawks. We have no draft picks for this year so all the wheeling and dealing has worked out great.
Please get rid of Woodson and Knight so we can have a chance.
The Hawks do NOT have that many holes. They have are set at point gaurd because Law will continue to develop and Bibby isn't too bad. Joe Johnson is one of the top 3 shooting gaurds in the league. Josh Smith is the best defensive small forward in the league and easily a top 10 offensive small forward. Al Horford will be a great power forward and or center as his career goes on. Marvin Williams and Josh Childress are good subs because they can play many positions and are Childress especially is a very smart player. Marvin can play either the 3 or 4, and Childress can play either the 1,2, or 3. Zaza is also not a bad back-up center. He might not be the biggest offensive presence but he is good at defense. That leaves us to 1 position a power forward/ center. My personal idea would be to trade a second and first next year for a top 15 pick this year. With the top 15 pick we can grab Roy Hibbert. You were saying we made dumb trades so we have no picks this year. Well we our first rounder is for Joe Johnson and our second was given to Sacramento for Bibby both trades are working out well for us.
We NEED to get rid of Mike Woodson, but we should keep Knight because he seems to be doing better lately. He picked Horford and Law who both didn't do too bad. He also made nice trades for Bibby and Joe Johnson a while back.
If we are so close, how did we finish 8 games under 500? These players seem good or decent, but we still lose far more than we win. It must be the coach I guess. You said Josh Smith is the best defensive small forward in the league. I might argue that point as he is not a very good on the ball defender. I would say he is average at that, but good coming from away from the ball. How would you say he stacks up offensively for a small forward? I would say average at best. You mentioned Acie Law will develop into a good point guard and I contend he isn't really a point gaurd. He is in the mold of a Jason Terry who is really an undersized two that handles the ball ok. Bibby is ok, but not a premier point guard by any means. Marvin can score sometimes, but doesn't defend or rebound consistently. Pachulia is a good back up that can't play defense but atleast works hard. Horford is a player and hopefully will get more opportunities to display his offensive skills more next year and beyond.
There is no doubt this team has some potential, but this team isn't really any closer to being a contender than any other of the so called run of the mill teams out there. If you watched Philly as an example, you would be making the same argument for Miller, Iguadala and Delembert. Or portland, or etc. Keep projecting and hoping.
The reality is that most of the good teams have a better "best" player and better compliments. Plus the coaching is miles better. Our superstar is Joe Johnson. Compare him to the star on other teams. Compare Bibby to the point guards of other teams and he is below star rank and very middle of the road. Josh Smith has room to grow so comparing him to the upper crust wouldn't be fair to him at this point. He keeps getting better so no telling what he might turn into. I think the rest of the guys you mentioned as being good backup or role players.
Sounds like we still need quite a bit of help too me. But then again it is just my opinion and I have been known to be wrong.
I tend to agree with you on Josh Smith most of our team are guys who are good in transition; problem is our team is not good enough on the defense sideof the ball to get the team running to produce stops. Josh has great numbers blocking but most of his come from weakside help or trailing, he is not an intimidator like Dikembe. I do not even want to discuss Marvin, what a waste. Acie gave Rondo & Cassell fits for the limited time he played at least he has the legs to drive & he is a better shooter than Bibby. However, we need Bibby's veteran leadership.
