Kobe matured this year. He made his teammates better and stayed within himself. When the Lakers needed him to step up his game, Kobe knew when to do it. No longer the selfish spoiled rich kid. A team player. Undoubtably the best player in the NBA this year. Keep it up Kobe. Haters will always keep on hating, use it to your advantage. Thank You All Kobe Haters.

I don't care his actions etc and his attitude, but statistically he doesn't deserve the MVP award. He hasn't made a bigger contribution on the offensive or defensive side of the ball than Chris Paul or LeBron James, or been the key difference in helping his team win more games than previously:
These are the stats taken from the last week of the regular season:
On offense:
CP3: 21.2ppg + 11.5apg @ 2ppa = 44.2 total per game
King: 30.2 ppg + 7.3 apg @ 2ppa = 44.8 total per game
Kobe: 28.6 ppg + 5.4 apg @ 2ppa = 39.4 total per game
On defense:
Chris Paul: 2.7 steals per game but 0.0 blocks per game (when rounded) - total 2.7
LeBron: 1.8 steals per game but 1.1 blocks per game - total 2.9
Kobe: 1.9 steals per game and 0.5 blocks per game - total 2.4
Kobe clearly trails in both categories, and he also plays on a team with other very good players (imagine what CP3 or LeBron could do with Gasol and Bynum on their team). He hasn't made a bigger individual contribution than either of the other two nor made his teammates better as much as they have. He may have "matured" in your eyes - but how do you measure maturity??

You are splitting hairs here guy. You are obviously anti-kOBE. Any of the three players you mentioned deserved it and you can add Kevin Garnett to your list too. Kobe winning MVP is not outrageous, he deserved it. I would have been ok with CP3 or KIng as well. If you watch Kobe game in and game out, the only way you would be upset for the choice of MVP being Kobe is if you are jealous that it didn't go to your guy.
Please examine your real motives. It is not like they gave it to Gilbert Arenas who was out the entire year with an injury.

Pontstreet, just because he doesn't agree with you doesn't make him anti-Kobe. Any one of the three, as well as Kevin Garnett would have been good picks. He just backs up with statistics as to why HE feels Chris Paul deserved it MORE. He didn't say Kobe wasn't deserving, he just said CP3 was MORE deserving.
Typical Kobe/Lakers fan. If people don't see things your way, their hating on you. Give it a rest.

I just want to say, amongst many of the nay-sayers that Kobe has earned his MVP. Alot of people on these boards are just Kobe haters. I am not a Lakers fan, actually a Spurs fan, so I already have my bias(Spurs), but atleast one season that Kobe is around he deserves a MVP award. Some people are acting as if he has won the past 6 MVP's. I know people are allowed there opinion, but most of the opinions are driven by hate and not logic.

I never said it would be outrageous if Kobe won - read my post before you criticise statements that don't exist.
Living in LA (I'm a Warriors fan though) means I've seen Kobe a fair bit this year, but I was never as impressed by his performances as I was with LeBron's or Chris Paul's. It doesn't make me anti-Kobe - opposing him on the basis that he was a Lakers player or an alleged rapist would be, but not statistics.
I just proved that Kobe is not the statistical choice for MVP - that is motive enough to criticise choosing the guy. Don't go searching for alternative motives and false arguments just because I don't agree with your point of view. In fact, as far as I can see you have offered very little in the way of an argument why Kobe should be MVP but have instead largely filled your posts with superfluous criticism of haters. Shouting people down doesn't work on the internet because everybody can see the lack of logic in your argument.

I think you'll find that the initial poster is the epitome of someone whose opinion is based on something other than logic. His man love for Kobe is unbelievable - it beats Prisco's for Brady Quinn.
My example showed that Kobe didn't deserve to win the MVP this year, not because I don't like him - as I stated at the top of my post, I don't care about his alleged indiscretions or attitude - but because he simply has contributed enough to his team's performance. It is the most valuable player award after all. That 5 pt margin in terms of overall contribution is huge and not just splitting hairs - it's a discernable 11% difference in performance

And when if ever has stats been the # 1 reason for choosing an MVP(think Steve Nash). Yes it figures into a great deal, but if you look back at all of the other MVP candidates over the years, they all had great stats, but did not always win the MVP. Kobe has led the league and scoring with good assist and rebounds averages to boot. Yet I think it was his turnaround he has made in his attitude this year as compared to his previous years that was the most important. Yes Gasol has been a great improvement to the Lakers and could be the final piece they need to win a ring in the future, but without Kobe there, he would be in a very similar situation as he was in Memphis where his team didn't have enough to get over the hump, and now we will find out if the Lakers have such a team in place. Chris Paul is a beast for sure, but he is also young, so barring something drastic changing, I believe he will get his turn as a MVP. The same can be said for Lebron. We all know the importance of those players to their respective teams, but to say that Kobe is not as important to his team is absurd. Besides its an award that in the grand scheme of things means nothing, unless said player gets a championship

Backing up your argument with stats like blocks per game and steals per game is absolutely ludicrous. You can be a terrible defender who takes a lot of risks to get a bunch of steals in a game. How many steals per game does Bruce Bowen get? Does that make Bowen a bad defender? Or you can be like Marcus Camby and get your blocks off easy help D when your teammates force the opponent into the lane. The MVP award goes well beyond statistics, it's about how well you make your teammates around you, how cohesive you make your team. The obvious choice this year is Kobe Bryant. Chris Paul played great, so did Garnett, but nobody did more this year than Kobe Bryant.
