Fletcher was due to make almost £1 million this year.  He would have been the backup receiving TE to Dallas Clark.  The Colts drafted a rookie receiving TE in Jacob Tamme.  They will likely sign him for half the amount Fletcher is making.  Fletcher isn't a blocking TE.  These roles are likely to be filled by Tom Santi and Gijon Robinson.  I am sure they liked Tamme's potential.  It is likely they got Tamme in the rookie camp and liked enough of what they saw to make Fletcher expendable.  I doubt the Colts want to pay nearly £1 million to a guy that will be a 3rd string TE and who won't see the field much.

I agree with the move if Tamme can deliver the goods.  The Colts need to save money.  Fletcher was also a free agent after this year and likely wouldn't have been resigned any ways.

The move is obviously a cap saving move.

Even if it is cap saving, we have other players that we could have let go. Fletcher was great as a back-up.

Fletcher was an adequate backup, plain and simple. He was very replaceable, and the Colts found them in their draft this year.

Again, the Colts got a cheaper backup in Tamme who is probably at least as good as Fletcher and as Griffdog said he replaces Fletcher.  The Colts aren't going to pay $1 million to a 3rd string TE not with their cap problems.

Fletcher can't block either and the Colts have Santi and Robinson to be the blocking TE's.

How is it such a surprise move when Fletch had a markedly unproductive year in 2007?

Wow... the team must be really high on Tamme to make this move......

He couldn't block, but when it came to recieving Fletch was actually pretty good.

Only time will tell if this is a good move or not.

tamme won't be much of a blocking back either, but i think he will be a far better reciever than fletcher was.  Tom Santi will be used as the blocking back more likely.
