Here's my take on this. I am a huge Laker fan, however I am not a big Kobe fan at all. Regardless to day, Paul was right there in the voting, and I think he should have been, but only if they would have won the West. If that would have happened, then I would honestly say Paul was MVP. I have to give it to Kobe, he brought that team back after they lost Bynum. Yes Gasol was a huge gain for them, however we saw something from Kobe that we or anyone else has never saw, and that was a mentoring of trust in his teamates. He did what defines great players in this league, he made the players around him better.
Vujacic, Farmer, Turiaf, hell Mbenga, and Radmonivic, compared to last season, these guys really really stepped their games up and Kobe was kicking the rock out to them and getting them involved. This is the most unselfish I have ever seen Kobe in his career. So I think the race was really really tight, and it could have gone either way, but in the end, I give it to Kobe, by a slight edge, and I mean slight.
