This has been thrown around from time to time but what does everyone think?  Obviously this wouldn't happen if Tex gets resigned but I'm betting that doesn't happen.

At first, Chipper would still be able to utilize his infield skills but could rest his body a bit more.  I also think that our farm system is better suited to replace a third basemen rather than a first basemen.

I've never been much of a fan of this idea.  First off I think chip is on a mission to get a gold glove after getting snubbed for it last year.  Thus it would be kinda crappy to move him to first after a potential gold glove year.

I've also speculated that perhaps moving to first base may be an option for McCann after a few more years catching.  Mac is a great catcher and calls games like a veteran, but moving him to first would save wear and tare on his knees and hopefully keep him around longer than he would be as a full time catcher.

It all hinges on Tex though and whether or not we keep him.

I don't know about this. With all the outfielders in our system, we may need a place to put Jason Heyward- if we don't resign Teixeira. I think we will sign Tex for a while, and leave Chipper at 3B. His feet have been the issue at third, and moving him to first would actually put more strain on that area of his body. There is one other thing I'd like to bring up: his injurys have been of the freak nature the past couple years. Remember that he ran into that 3B last year? That was his DL stint, and it could've happened to anyone. Perhaps his injurys have recently been more bad luck than anything else?

I don't know about him being on a mission to win a gold glove, but i will say that he should have won it last season.  The stats don't lie.  More than any other awards gold gloves are given based upon reputation and David Wright had that rep.  Fair??? Absolutely not, but it is the world they play in.

I'm not convinced, as so many are, that the Braves won't resign Tex.  I really see largely the same infield layout for next season.

Why mess with a good thing?  Chipper is the best defensive third baseman that plays the game right now.  He can play third until he retires, and he will be the best.

I think he will stay at 3B, like 14 said if (actually when) we dont sign Tex maybe someone like a Jason Haywood can come up and play 1B we do have plenty of OF.

No way we resign Tex next year.  You think Boras is going to give us a deal? You think we can find room in the 82 mil budget for a Tex?  We couldn't even attempt to keep andruw (not that I think they wanted to) and he had been with the Braves all his life.

We should keep Chipper at 3B he's too good where he is.  As for the DL stints, well, its just the way its been.  He is 35.  He still has some gold glove years ahead of him at 3B and perhaps another MVP if he keeps going the way he is this year.

It all depends on whether Big Tex, will be here next season or not.

pops, the budget is at 90 million and the Braves will have money freed up from Glavine's Smotlz's, and Hampton's contracts. Even if the Braves resign any of them, they will not make anywhere near the money they are making now (maybe Glavine will though). I see the Braves having the chance to sign Tex, but they will indeed get outbid by one of the big market teams. Its a matter of him wanting to stay or move on. We'll see how it plays out. I think the chances right now are 50-50.
