jaa - i know exactly what you mean. I've watched the drunks from each respective city belittle eachother for three years now. Finally the two teams meet up in a significant sporting event and everyone leaves for the semester a day or two before it even begins!

People on either side of the state have no idea that State College is pretty much the epicenter of the Philly/Pittsburgh rivalry. I know I didn't despise the west side of the state untill I came here.

Oh well......at least the Birds and Steelers play a regular season game next year.

Heres to a good series fellas

Hi all!!! This is my first post...lol. I just want to say good luck Pens & Flyers...should be an awesome, hard fought series and one that should go 6 or 7 games and is either team's to win.

I'm crossing my fingers that the Pens prevail!!!!

LETS GO PENS!!!

Okay, I have a question RC Philly. Since when is sweeping a team barely coming out alive? I guess I thought that was dominating, but apparently, I was mistaken. The Rangers played well in each game we played. They have Stars, including Jagr, Straka, King Henry etc. etc.

Your Flyers faced a weak goalie in Casey Price and almost lost. You would have been easily downed had it been Fleury you faced.

With such a powerful offense that we have, we should grab a quick lead.

It'll be a fun series to watch. Good luck.

Ok let me address some of the inaccuracies that marchofthepens just threw out there.

"Your Flyers faced a weak goalie in Casey Price"

You are dead wrong about that.  Stop judging goalies but what the media tells you---the best statistic for judging goalies is save percentage.  Both of the goalies the Flyers have faced so far in the playoffs had better save percentages than either of the goalies the Pens faced.  Price also came into this series having had an incredible, stand on your head game 7 in the first round.  The Flyers also arguably faced the two HOTTEST teams coming into the playoffs.  In their last 10 games the Caps were 9-1-0 and Montreal was 8-1-1.  In the first round the Pens faced an Ottawa team that had already given up on the season because of all the injuries they had.  They limped into the playoffs, going 3-6-1 in their last 10. The Rangers were a very good 5-1-4 in their last 10 but still not as dominant as the Canadiens and the Caps were to finish the regular season.

"With such a powerful offense that we have, we should grab a quick lead."

If the Pens offense is so powerful how is it that the Flyers finished the regular season with one more goal than the Pens?  Granted just one more goal means nothing but I hardly think I would go into a series saying how POWEFUL my team's offense is compared to another team's offense when they were outscored by them.  And before you start in about how dominant they've been in the playoffs, the Flyers actually hold a scoring edge there as well.  The Pens have averaged 3.44 gpgwhile the Flyers have averaged 3.58 gpg.  Again a very small advantage but one that further illustrates that the Pens do not have an overwhelming edge on offense against the Flyers.

if you look at the last half of the season, they Flyers have been terrible and the Pens have been flying.  eliminate the final game of the season (which neither team showed that they really wanted to go all out for the win) and the Pens had won 3 straight against.   sure, the Pens had a cake walk first round, but you guys almost blew a 3-1 lead, and it took a PP goal in OT in game 7.  we could hear the choking noise all the way on this side of the state, until you cleared AO out of your throats.  this one won't be a sweep either way, but I see the Pens with the better talent throughout their lineup taking the Flyers out.

Okay, I have a question RC Philly. Since when is sweeping a team barely coming out alive?Hahahaha march.. obviously you missed the smack of sarcasm in my post! Which is exactly my point, the Pens eased thru the Sens like a hot knife thru butter, and the Rangers weren't that much harder.. so why even say that the Flyers should have done better against their foes, when Pitt had even easier competition?

BurghGurl.. to get your own pic on your avatar, you need to be at the All Star level. Otherwise, you can choose from the limited pics that CBS has by going to your profile and clicking on Change Avatar where the silhouette is. You can choose anything from the first column there, or possibly have a creation from Meez.com.. not totally sure about that one, but I think you can do that at any level.

I think the title of the thread should be Primanti's (or Peppies) vs the cheesesteak.  I say Primanti's in 7.  Should be a tough series.  Can't wait.

This will be a fun series to watch - lots of hits.  Evgeni Malkin has already been quoted as saying he doesn't like Philadelphia. R.J. Umberger is a Pittsburgh killer and a Pittsburgh native.  I think the Penguins have more talent, but anything can happen with the goaltenders.  I'm a little surprised the Flyers made it this far the way they finished their season, but that just shows what they did the first half of the season was no fluke.  The Pens have a much better resume the past couple years as a whole, and I'm guessing they'll win in 6.

I love the cross-state rivalry!
