Martin Prado has been placed on the 15-day DL after his head first slide into 1B during Sundays game with the Reds. Taking his place on the roster will be Greg Norton, acquired via a trade with the Seattle Mariners for future considerations.

Norton has played mostly 1B, 3B, and DH in his 12 year career. He has a lifetime batting avg of .253, 82 HR, and 300 rbi. He also has a lifetime fielding pct. of .966, but seems best suited to play 1B (.993) or OF (.973).

I didn't think we needed a backup 1B-3B, but maybe there is a trade in the works involving Brayan Pena??????

Doesn't sound like too bad of a deal.  He's 7-16 this year.  Martin Proda will be missed, but hopefully this guy can fill the role.  Or even come off the bench and pinch hit.  On the plus side a lot of our guys will be rested come the end of the season lol.

This trade does make sense, especially from a defensive standpoint. Since Gotay can play SS/2B, I don't mind haveing Norton come in occasionally for Chipper/Teixeira late in games or for a spot/rest start. Prado has been good offensively, but not as strong with the glove. I think this trade helps out the infield depth for the short term. Also, since the Braves still have 3 cathers on thier roster, which is odd, but someone said it was a waiver thing, that means the Braves need a 4th OF (Blanco), a CI (Norton) and a MI (Gotay) off the bench. However, since most of these players, sans Blanco, are more defensive players, this does limit our pinch-hitting ability. Did anyone see Jo-Jo Reyes PH last game?

What trade?  This is only a temporary replacement until Prado gets healthy.  Nobody's leaving or being traded.

Norton will mostly only pinch-hit and  might play every few days in blowout games.  That's about it.  I think it's a good replacement for Prado, until he's healthy.
