You Big Ten fans are morons. So, you think that having three conferences with more ranked teams than you does not qualify as a 'soft' year for the Big Ten??
That's right, the SEC (6), Big 12 (5), and Big East (5) have more ranked team than your supposedly great Big 10. While the league is not as soft as the Pac 10 or ACC, it is obviously down. This doesn't even bring to light the fact that your best team can't prove it on the field in big OOC games. It doesn't even factor in that Illinois and Michigan State are both overrated in the preseason in large part because there is nobody else in that worthless conference other than OSU that is gauranteed to beat them.
That being said, it's probably an average year for the Big 10. Sure, they have had five or six teams ranked in the Top 25 some years, sometimes as many as seven, but everyone knows they just had those because they didn't have a chance to flop on the field against a good OOC opponent until the bowls.
It is a soft year in the Big Ten. They are probably the fourth toughest conference from top to bottom, though you could argue they are better overall than the Big East. They are nowhere near the Big 12 (probably the best overall) or the SEC.
