Bean...that wasn't my point about the union, the point was that the union offers the players protection.  The union has policies in place to help players evaluate the fairness of any contract.
You're right, though, it is possible there is a weight clause in Rogers' contract, just not likely.

The union ABSOLUTELY gets involved in the wording of contracts. It's called presedence. They look out for the rights of ALL players and that means advising their union members on clauses that could potentially hurt another players bargaining power down the road.

Noone is disagreeing that a weight clause is possible. It is just highly unlikely and it is not a fair comparison to what happened with T.O. and Winslow. They are two different animals. But since you have first hand knowledge what players have had weight clauses in the past? It's become an interesting subject.

Bean I wasn't comparing last years team to this years team as much as I was saying that the better team or in last year's case the more motivated team doesn't always win. To say that the Bengals would be two wins next year just struck me a little funny based on what happen last year - that's all.

My gut tells me last year was your year. And this year is a let down year. Not unlike the Saints in 2006 and 2007. Alot of things went your way last year. Schedule was soft and you remained very healthy for most of the year. You won some games that could of gone either way (including the replay in the Ravens game that wasn't in the rules - they got the call right so I'm all good with that but it was fortunate). I see a let down year. You see a better year than last.

To steal G's line OTWT.

Heres some interesting stats for you beachbum. I think you would say that Casey Hampton is a pretty good player. I would tend to agree with you as I give credit where credit is due. Having said that lets compare Casey and Shaun Rogers. The really neat part of this excersize is that they both entered the league in 2001 so we are comparing them at the exact same points in their careers. So here goes....

Hampton 100 GP/232 Tack/4.5 sacks/0 int/0TD/2 passes defensed

Rogers 98 GP/353 Tackles/29 sacks/1 int/1TD/21 passes defensed

The numbers suggest that Rogers is a much better player than Hampton as evidenced by him out producing Hampton in every single category by a very wide margin. Those were his numbers while he was considered to nt be playing up to his abilities. Now just imagine how much better than Hampton  Rogers will be if Crennell can get him motivated by being in a winning environment.

Grady Jackson has at various times in his career had weight clauses written into his contracts. I'm sure there are others, but I'm not going to do too much research on it right now. I don't have first hand knowledge, because I've never personally seen a players contract first hand, but thanks for the confidence in me.

Yeah thats a pretty obvious statement. Everyone know that the better team loses sometimes. I think that is where the old saying "any given Sunday" comes into play. It would strike me as funny if you were to tell me the Steelers would sweep the Ravens this year after splitting with them last season.

My gut tells me last year was your year. And this year is a let down year. We'll see how things turn out. My gut tells me the Steelers are on the decline, but we still have to win to prove it. The division is yours until someone takes it and I think this may be the year. Good Luck, cant wait for week 2.

reality check? Browns win 9 games this year.

Coming from Wisconsin I know two things about your team. You got a huge steal in Joe Thomas. He is a top 3 Left tackle.

You reached on Williams. But with the Giants effect defensive linemen are the fad and maybe you were right to swallow your pride and over pay a rotational dt. Although he can  get pressure on the Qb which is essential for a 3-4 defense, the fact remains he's only a rotational player.

next: Maybe I'm crazy?

From a outside perspective what the hell is jamal still doing on your team. And in it's infinite wisdom the staff has a copy -1 of him in wright at your #2? I like jamal but he's not a #1 running back. I don't know much about Jerome Harrison but every game he got a touch you won. he had a 6 something average. At the very least Your team needs a change of pace running back.

peace.

ummm, ok.... 5th in the league in rushing yards last year w/ 1304yds; 9 tds while missing a couple games... Call me crazy but, probably why he's still on the team. He did come on strong in the second half of last season w/ like 800yds in the last 7 games too. I see you are an outside observer so, just an FYI. - peace

Bean Cities. DK always makes every post about how Browns fans are saying"we are so much better than the Bengals" I dont know where he gets it from, but he turns every post into that. Ive learned to ignore him.

Gmiller,

I could dig up a few of your posts from the Bengals board and prove you are the one who gave me that perception.... Do I really want to take the time to do that nah.. But I can its all there... Watch what you say Gmiller.. You got nothing on BeanCities!!! I have found SA Stovell to also be an intellegent browns fan.. This list is growing!
