Hey Corn_Fed_Bubba.  How in the heck did wind affect your reception on the dish network?  The only time you lose a signal caused by weather with any satellite provider is when the signal can't penetrate, normally as in a heavy thunderstorm.  Wind has absolutely no bearing on the matter.  Plus, where in Middle Tennessee are the winds that ferocious anyway?  I lived in the Murfreesboro/Smyrna for many years and find you claim totally ludicrous.

Actually, it really isn''t just the NFL being greedy.  If it was a free market, then the "market", which is us, should be able to choose the NFL network over the Golf Channel, because we want it more.  Comcast is not forced to charge us more for NFLNet, BigTen Network, etc. it just means they are choosing to charge us for their owned channels rather than these others owned by other networks.  The claim is that that is an unfair practice.   Since the FCC owns the bandwidth, they have the ultimate responsiblity in making sure that what is occupying that bandwidth has a fair and equal chance to get there.  What rules that is of course turning out to be the almighty buck.

For both companies, it boils down to the money.  Neither one cares about the consumers really, other than to get as much of your dollars as possible.  Unfortunately, that is how the business world operates.

Mostly we are just along for the ride.

Demand:  A LA CARTE PACKAGES!!!

The real ripoff is that no matter what service provider you have, you are subsidizing dozens of channels you don't want, watch or care that exist.

I pay for over 250 channels that I NEVER WATCH so I can have NFL!  My A LA Carte package would be ESPN, the Duece, NFL Network, CNN and thats it... I can get the rest off the air waves in HD better than satelite or cable... if I want to watch a movie, I will have it mailed or downloaded to me!

In terms of value for the money, Verizon's FIOS TV service is the best around. The picture is incredible, the service is great, and you get like 200+ channels for only $42.99 a month, including NFL Network. The lowest tier of Comcast's digital cable is over $55.00/month. I love my Fios. Only problem is no NFL The Ticket package. You get NFLN but I would like to be able to see all the games.

Good point Speed-Racer.   Ultimately we all should have the ability to ala carte our programming.   Cable companies have been fighting that battle (and winning for now) forever.   They say it can't be done because so many channels come packaged with other channels.   For instance, ESPN would be a high demand channel and it costs the providers quite a bit to carry however when they get ESPN they are also getting x number of secondary channels...I saw a list of what goes together sometime back...and that is the only way these smaller, specialty channels get put on the air.   These niche channels would never exist on their own.   So just remember to get the ESPN's that means you are forced with stuff like the QVC's and random Britney Spears Gossip channels as they get packaged with the high demand stuff via their companies.   They are fighting the ala carte as well.

Motley Crew,  Yes...I agree with you.  Like I said--only way cheaper is by going to a good sports bar that carry Sunday Ticket.  There's place like this about 5 to 10 minutes away from my home that has 20 TVs plus billiards and dart boards.  Better than nothing!
