I have never seen anything like that tonight.  Throws out one of the fastest guys in the National League just in front of the warning track in center  on a tag up.  Then throws a runner out trying for a triple from the wall in left center.  UNBELIEVABLE!!!  The man has a cannon for a left arm.  Threw 2 strikes from the outfield, he couldn't have ran up and handed the ball to Glaus any better.  What a game!!  Oh yeah he also hit a homer.  Nice game Rick, and great win Cardinals.  Keep it up.

We have seen some great plays in centerfield since Jimmy Ballgame manned there for several years, but those two throws were the best I have ever seen in a long time. Ladies and gentleman, you have just witnessed the next great centerfielder and one of the top five arms in MLB today. They were making comparisions to Roberto Clemente on the Cardinals telecast. And it is not just the arm, its the accuracy too. Unreal and by the way, he had the game winning run on the homer he hit in the 8th. Great game Rick

I agree freak5.  I would put Ankiel better than top 5.  To be honest I can't think of one player that has the arm strength Ankiel has to go along with the accuracy.

Got a tough question for everyone.  If Ankiel keeps playing like he is and getting better do you move him to a corner spot once Rasmus comes up next year?  I personally would leave Ankiel in center and mover Rasmus to a corner spot.  It doesn't get much better than Ankiel right now in center.

No doubt, Sunny&Ben! That was awesome. Why do they allways put the lamest photograph up on the team site, I mean Ankiel hits one out and guns out 2 guys at 3rd and they give us a pic of Isturis getting ran into at second? That is weak. Anyway...Cards are the hottest team in baseball, GO CARDS!!

I would definitely say leave Ankiel in center and move Rasmus to a corner position because Ankiel is more comfortable in center and it has been said that he is more of a natural center fielder. If it ain't broke, don't fix it in center. But the way our outfield looks right now anyway, I'm not sure where you put him right now or even next year. But an outfield of Rasmus, Ankiel and Schumaker with Ludwick and Barton thrown in there sounds pretty good as a spot might open up out there with Duncan playing like crap at the plate and in the field.

I agree with you guys. When I saw Ank make that throw from deep left center to get that runner trying for the triple and gun him out, I thought abou what the late Jack Buck said about Kirk Gibsons gw homerun. "Unbelieveable!!! I don't believe what I just saw!!!" Jimmy Ballgame made some very dandy plays for us in is day but it's a relief to know that we have a bona fide successor to Jimmy.

To me, the one thing that's gonna make him stand out amongst the rest of the CF'ers is the fact that he used to be a pitcher. That's why he has such a good, strong, accurate throwing arm. Looks like all those pointers he got from Jimmy Ballgame are gonna pay off really big for us. The one thing I can't wait for is when we get to play the Padres and Jimmy sees for himself why we dealt him. I'm sure that even Jimmy's gonna be amazed at Ank the Tank.

Gentlemen, what I think our Cards should do when Colby Rasmus gets called up is to use him in left field. I think we would have one of the best outfields in Rasmus in left, Ankiel in center and a platoon of Schumaker/Ludwick in right. And get rid of Chris Duncan.

Great game Ank the Tank!!! Keep it up dude!!!

GO CARDS!!!!     68

That was fun to watch but the cards almost had a hard time closing the door on the Rockies.

It just shows you the athleticism that Ankiel has go from a pitcher to a starting center fielder and then make those throws. Those throws I think became so unreal for a few reasons: 1. NO BOUNCES! That is insane. Being a former outfielder and throwing from that deep to 3rd base is insane to get to on a fly. 2. He threw each ball to the bag, not to Glaus. Watch where these balls land. Holy cow! 3. HE FREAKING DID IT TWICE!

Oh and like it was said earlier, ended up having the game winning homer.

I agree about Rasmus bringing him to a corner spot and it may be time to part ways with Duncan. He is a perfect first baseman/DH; however, he needs to get something going offensively now. Defensively he has always been shaky (Monday certified that one). He was kept a year or two too long because of his last name and he would hit the occasional home run.

i think the best part of those throws were the runners reactions.  Their faces says it all.  They couldnt believe they were out.  Both of them probably thought that glaus was trying to trick them into sliding then when the ball came they just couldnt believe that.  I was watching the game and i was in amazement one the first one.  Watching him throw it from the warning track amazing.

The guy is a stud. I though the same thing last year when he made a throw from deep right to get the guy out at second.  He beat the runner by 6 steps at least. To get 2 runners is impressive but normally a team would learn from the first attempt and show some re
