Here in Kansas City, the sports radio guys are all buzzing about the Chiefs stealing Thigpen off the waiver wire. They are considering him as competition for Brodie Croyle as the starter this year! This has me wondering..... If Thigpen is that good, why did we take the chance putting him on waivers? I think we got a great deal bringing in Jared Allen, but did we screw up with a potential starting QB? Don't get me wrong, I am behind T-Jack, but if Thigpen is as good as the Chiefs seem to think, wouldn't we want to keep him as a backup? Give me your thoughts.
GO Vikings!

Of course we wanted to keep Thigpen, but we just didnt have enough roster spots. You also need to remember that the Chiefs have Bodie Croyle as a starter so they are trying to find a gem just like we are. I am happy with our QB's right now anyways, Booty is a good prospect for our WCO. Tarvaris has potential and Frerotte is a good backup.

I'm hearing the same things on the radio in KC! Did Thigpen look that good for the Vikings, and if so, why not hang on to him? I think T-Jack, Thigpen, and Booty would have been a promising nucleus of young QB prospects to have on the roster!
I haven't heard much from the Viking camp on the loss of Thigpen, other than they thought they could sneak him through waivers. If he is a potential starter in this league, why do you leave him unprotected?
I agree on Jared Allen, both teams came out ahead on this one. The Vikings got their pass rusher (the missing link to this defense), the Chiefs got multiple picks, and lets face it, they needed them! I met Jared Allen a few times, and he is truly a nice guy, very down to Earth! He will talk to anyone, and he doesn't seem like a superstar NFL player. He reminds you of just an average guy, except he's a very big average guy!

I'm a T-Jack supporter, and think Booty was a steal when we got him, I worry about Frerotte's age though! I'm sure he was brought in as a veteran to bring T-Jack along, I get that! I'm OK with our overall situation right now, I was just shocked to hear all the excitement in KC over the signing, considering I didn't hear alot of talk about him with Minnesota, and the Chiefs were claiming Brodie as their man not long ago! Just seemed a little strange to me.

Correct me if Im wrong, but didn't the Vikings release Tyler Thigpen last year before the season? I thought he was picked up by Philly and i guess now he is on the Chiefs. Anyway we could have use another alternitive last season when T-Jack wen down becuause Boeler and that other dude suck. Even a JT Osulivan would have been better. Hopefully we dont have a situation like that this year, I like the Gus Ferrotte signing and the drafting of Booty. I think it is extremely important to have a capable veteran quarterback be able to step in and play if the situation arises. The vikings quarterback situation is a lot more stable this season.
I think a lot remains to be seen from T-Jack. You have to remember he had nobody to throw the ball to last year. Williamson sucks, Boby wade is pretty much only good for slants and curls, and Sydney Rice was a rookie in learning. Oh yea and Shianco is a bust. All things considered Jackson showed some promise.
The addition of Bernard Berrian and year under the belt for Sydney Rice will prove to be the difference in this seasons passing game. I think both Berrian and Rice can beat man to man on the outside and boby wade should make a killing with his underneath routes. Either way we will definatly know what we have in Tavaris Jackson by the time this season is over.

I agree, this is a make or break season for Jackson! I think he has the tools to work with now, as well as the experience! No doubt a solid running game to take the pressure off, as well as a solid defense to protect a lead, or at least keep games close! We don't need T-Jack to put up great numbers, just protect the ball, and make an occasional play to keep the defense honest! Bernard Berrian may prove to be as good a pickup as Jared Allen if he can spark the passing game. Taking some pressure off Adrian Peterson will only make him look that much better! I haven't been this excited going into a season in several years!

Superbowlin you are correct Thigpen was released after preseason last year, the Vikings thought they could sneak him through and throw him on the practice squad. I questioned it at the time, I questioned it again during the season when Holcomb and Bollinger stunk it up. Who knows if he'll end up being any good but he couldn't have been any worse than the two veterans we hung onto.

I REALLY like Thigpen when we drafted him. Chilldress took a risk, and tried to sneak him through the waiver, but it didnt work as planned. He is a good QB, and i can see him being very good in a few years. Its kinda a shame he is stuck on a team lacking talent. I think if he could get over to a team like the Texans, Jets, Bills, or Panthers, he could be REALLY good in a few years.
I still wish we had him.

I think it has more to do with Brodie Croyle stinking up the joint, than with Thigpen being good. Out of 4 QB's he was the one they let go. That has to tell you something.

Actually Koolaide , the idea was to sneak him thru waivers , then stash him on the practice squad . there wasn't room on the roster for four QB's , and with Tarvaris Jackson starting , there was a need for experienced backups . Unfortunately , the Vikings scrimmage with the Chiefs every year , and they saw the same talent that Childress saw . As soon as Tyler Thigpen went on the waiver wire , they grabbed him . Believe me , the Vikings wanted to keep him , but they felt there were other players they could less afford to lose , and so they gambled ( and lost ) that they could sneak him past everyone . But those wily Chiefs saw him and took advantage . A calculated risk that didn't pan out for the Vikings .
