If your talking about building a skilled team for a long time you wouldnt take Crosby, Ovechkin thats for sure... when you have 1 guy on your team commanding 1/5-1/6th your budget you arnt going to build a team your going to build superstar plus rabble. (dont talk to me about the Penguins.. they have a year or so left and that team isnt going to be good anymore... unless you really believe all those players that are going to take no money (malkin, staal, hossa, malone, Fluery) )
Id build around someone who is skilled enough to run a top line but leave enough cap to cover him with other talent, id pick Datsyuk, Lecavalier, Zetterberg, Fedorov(if we are taking current players from rookie years...)
